Social Media Challenge - Turning The Tide Even When Odds Are Bad

image.png

Prelude
Good day to all, how are all of you doing? Hope all of you are doing good. I am back again to do another battle sharing with the community on some special and memorable matches that I encounter as I play Splinterlands throughout the week. For today's match, I felt very guilty because I actually gave up and clicked skipped battle as I thought the match was a goner. However, it was far from over. One card single-handedly overturn the outcome of the match and gave me a pleasant surprise.

I did gave a look at the match till I thought I couldn't hold on but somehow one card sustained on and cleared everyone single card that remained on my opponent's lineup. We often tend to just skip the battle if we think the match is gone but when I saw the result, it made me go back to view the match in full. So let's look deeper into this match.

Ruleset: Aim True
Mana Limit: 31

Selection Analysis
With a ruleset of just Aim True and a mana allowance of 31, it would mean for me that I will need some form of resistance rather than having high speed and hoping opponent will miss their attacks since every attack is a sure hit.

For me, I decided to go with a magic lineup with Iziar being the resistance force to soak up and reduce the damage taken since she does have a very high HP to begin with. From the front, I have put up a Moxian Rebel combination where Moxian Rebel weapon train two other attack-less cards into something useful. The 2 cards are Pelacor Conjurer and Helmet Kharafax respectively whom both gained magic attack and brought additional value to the lineup. Next will be Stitch Leech which is a big sneak hitter to take things out from the back. Following which is Spirit Hoarder which is able to give Triage and additional sustainability to the last card Iziar whom will be taunting damage towards herself but suppressed in magic damage due to void. Overall strategy is the keep adding pressure while Iziar takes the damage for the lineup while Spirit Hoarder also help ensure Iziar is alive.

Opponent played a battle tactics summoner Eternal Toufy which before tactics applied already gave the full team torns which is a big problem for melee and thankfully I only have one. For tank, opponent used a Marksrat to suicide and boost Drybone Barbarian which is know to strike even harder when it gets injured. Following behind Drybone Barbarian is Corsair Bonus which is yet another high attack melee with Reach and able to hide at 2nd position and strike with ease. The remaining 2 cards in my opponent's lineup are just fodder or padding since they are not going to deal significant damage. Even when I saw this lineup, I knew my opponent's melee front line is not easy to deal with and it will get worse once the tactics are applied.

A very strong setup for my opponent. I had planned to handle magic attackers with my lineup, but somehow it is very minimal. I am not sure how am I able to win this with a very bad odds staked against me, but my lineup did surprise me. Let's battle!

Round by Round Synopsis

Round 1 - Effectively this was a relatively peaceful round where there wasn't much action. But something to note is that battle tactics were applied on Drybone Barbarian giving it both Triage and Scavenge which is a bad thing for us because every card died will give it health and also it is able to help heal its backline. A attack booster Drybone Barbarian is no easy card to handle.

Round 2 - Not much change to the situation on the field but Conjurer is now snared while Drybone Barbarian is very much enraged. Stitch Leech still unable to take out Soul Fiend but got injured due to thorns. My front is getting breached soon and I am really worried.

Round 3 - To be honest, this is where I actually clicked skip battle. Because Stitch Leech did not manage to kill Soul Fiend but died to thorns aand then Pelacor Conjurer was fully smashed, leaving an exposed Moxian Rebel which only had 1 health point. Based on self assessment, this is a goner.

Round 4, Moxian Rebel get smashed while Helmet Kharafax armour was easily disposed by Corsair Bosun. With such a big melee threat upon me, how am I supposed to turn the match to win?

image.png

Round 5, The double melee from my opponent took out Helmet with ease and also cleared the armour for Spirit Hoarder. Thankfully, Iziar finally took out Drybone Barbarian while threat from Corsair is still there.

Round 6-10, Through these rounds, the tide turned as Iziar finally took out Corsair and now faced the 2 fodder cards which she will have no issues clearing them out.

Everything wrapped out in round 12 and a nice victory was earned as Iziar staged the comeback coming from a very worrying melee threat that cleared out my card one by one.

Battle Summary
This is absolutely unbelievable. What seemed like a point of no return saw revival due to the persistence and resilience of the team to sustain on and outmuscle the crazy melee threat and finally claiming the victory after clearing the 2 fodder cards. At round 3, it was so worrying but bit by bit, momentum was gained back and once the 2 threats are cleared, victory is in our hands.

Wrap Up
What an amazing match where odds stacked against us are overturned. Iziar have been one of my most reliable cards that I've used and she again showed in this match that she is capable of winning matches that are difficult in nature. I am glad I do own such a card that is so good and performing similar to my favourite Djinn Oshannus. Hope you enjoyed my sharing of the match.
