Community Engagement Challenge: Forgotten Cards - Riftwing

Hi all, good day to all of you. It's time again for Community Engagement Challenge. Today's challenge topic is quite interesting as we look at cards that seem to be forgotten that deserve a second look. I think there are definitely quite a number out there that people forget their existence and even use them on the battlefield. The card that I am going to pick today is Riftwing.

Riftwing - A Forgotten Card

Many might dispute and tell me that they use this card very often in because they do weapon training and give it another chance to allow it to have some attack.

But look back, before weapon training was available, this card was actually used for another purpose, especially for death splinter that did not have a cleanse mechanism.

Before we dive further, let us take a look at Riftwing's stats and level up growth.

This is an attack-less card that only has flying and scavenge at level 1. It gets backfire and headwinds subsequently. Without weapons training, this will be a card that is often overlooked. However, this card is a gem when it comes to rulesets which reduces health of cards turn by turn even when it doesn't have an attack.

What is so good about this card?
Having both flying and scavenge equipped is what makes this card so good even before the ages of having weapons training. This is can just sit out and outlast you in many ruleset as long the ruleset does some damage to all cards. And this is why this card is so good for Earthquake and Noxious Fumes. Flying allows this card to escape the tremors and scavenge allow you to "heal" from all the dying cards.

So what are its weaknesses?
While it can scavenge, this card only benefit self instead of others such as those that possess tank heal or triage. Unless you have Skok Duskblight, this card will not gain magic attack if Moxian Rebel cannot be played when neutral cards are not allowed. There are also a number of rulesets that this card cannot play in. So it also has its shortcomings when it comes to selection.

Battle Showcase
The easiest way for the community to understand how good this card is via a battle showcase and this battle has a combination of both earthquake and noxious fumes, which is 2x the madness in reducing health. The high speed requirement in this match didn't allow me to have Moxian Rebel being able to be selected and I went with just the basic Riftwing to show my opponent just how good this card is for this particular match.

Selection:
Death is the chosen splinter which allows me to play Riftwing. The lineup is filled with cards that either can fly, disable flying, hard hitter or just have a little higher health to spare and even can return some favour to my opponent. Not gonna be easy since it is a double wind down ruleset which means health will be shaved off very quickly and if we do not sustain long enough, it becomes an auto win for my opponent.

Opponent had almost the same general idea but not as much into the sustainability. While there is a Will-O-Wisp in play, it is not as good as Riftwing even when it has flying. So let's look at the round to round plays of the match.

Battle Synopsis

Round 1: A very free flowing round with various attacks flying towards one another with 0 casualties.

Round 2: As the round started, both earthquake and noxious fumes effect kick in. But as we applied all the effects, I found myself with only 1 card left on my end, which is Riftwing.

Round 3: Another round passed with various effects applied, no casualties this round as Chaos Battle Mage was revived.

Round 4-6: The time just went by and the effects just applied as the scavenge allowed the card to heal from all the casualties and finally standing stall as everyone else just fell. And without doing anything, I've won the match.

Wrap Up
A card that used to be seen more often but less now especially during earthquake/noxious fumes matches. Alot of focus today on weapons training but do remember that this card thrives on high tension matches where health of cards are being dwindled down fast after each turn.

While Chaos Legion is still in modern, do give this card another chance and also when Moxian Rebel or Skok Duskblight is able to weapon train it, this is a card that you should include in your lineup. A bird that soars and eats the flesh of those that have fallen.
