When it come to splinterlands as a beginner the first thing to note is to make your due research about the whole game system and how to thrive as a player, back then, information don't really fly around as it is nowadays so it was way hard to really make some certain decision on what to do actually, as a player I thought we just get a spell book, receive some in game cards and start playing with it or even if we get to spend on buying cards it will be like Godunchained which is another card based game, spend to buy card then start playing without having to join same cards together in the name of leveling them up but I noticed something after playing few games, my opponent cards were different in all stats and ability even after using similar card in the battle and he won. I had to find what I was not doing right and I noticed my cards were weak because they are just in level 1.

All cards came in with their own stats irrespective of their element or card type and at level 1 they are at their lowest, getting duplicate of these cards from the market and combining them together will increase their level upward and also unlock the next abilities when certain level are met. Abilities are important in battle and having your cards max will be giving you some extra advantage especially if your opponent comes in with weaker cards.

Deciding which cards to prioritize

This is one of the hardest decision to make when playing splinterlands, we have lot of cards in the game and most of them are really important to have and also useful in certain aspect. Taking myself as a case study, I have the element I like using most of the time and it depend on which ruleset I will be battling with, water is always my first, then death then earth and fire, in each element, I have my card type which ranges from magic then melee, range etc. When it come to prioritizing which cards I will be leveling up, I do take it from my most use cards, water and magic cards before anything and the reason is that magic cards attack health directly and it is always a plus if they have 3+ attack to be stronger.

Strategies for acquiring extra cards

when it come to this aspect, currently there are few ways I can think of, if one need to acquire extra cards, you can always check the market section often to see if cards price are really low so as to purchase them before someone else grab them, most times when we are in the crypto bear market, price of cards do dump and that is the time players do grab as much cards as they can. For average players, you can always take part in the splinterlands weekly writing challenge on hive to earn some votes on your content and in returns, use your author rewards in purchasing the cards you will be needing ( this is one of the best option) and it is always helpful. Another option is to source for splinterlands related giveaways on other social platform or on hive, players do give out packs, cards to winners or new players especially if they have plenty of it to dish out.
