Happy Schwanza!

My neighborhood experienced a series of black outs and brown outs in November. I wondered if all the new EVs in the neighborhood were taxing the grid. Regardless, I decided not to put put Christmas lights.

Other houses in the neighborhood appear to be following suit.

Fortunately, one house broke the trend with a fun display of neon reindeer and brightly colored porch lights.

NOTE: the secret to taking good Christmas light photos is stabilization. Traditionally one would do this with a tripod and remote camera clicker. New cameras have built in stabilization. So I decided to put of light photography until I have such a camera.

The Political Meme in the Header

As for the post header ... Nancy Pelosi gifted the world with prime meme material this week when she ended a speech with the greetings "Happy Schwanza!"

The full speech was epic. But before looking at the speech one has to look at context.

Newly elected members of Congress were upset that Pelosi forced through a $1.7 trillion omnibus bill in a lame duck session. The term "lame duck" refers to the Congressional session between the general election and the swearing in of the new Congress.

Many of the people who voted for the bill had lost their election. Many new elected representatives would have voted against it. Most importantly, Pelosi is slated to lose her position as Speaker of the House.

The passage of a trillion dollar omnibus bill in a lame duck session is that type of thing that takes place in corrupt legislatures.

To deflect from claims that the omnibus bill was corrupt, Pelosi made the absurd claim that the anti-government protest on Jan 6, 2021 was the most corrupt act in Congressional history.

The protest was an expression by people who felt that the 2020 election was corrupt. While I think the protestors were foolish, I would not chock it up as an example of corruption.

Using the protest to deflect criticism of a corrupt piece of legislation in a lame duck session of Congress is corrupt.

She justified her corruption with the claim that anti-government protestors were corrupt in the actions.

I think it is fitting that Pelosi ended her career as House Speaker with an epic meme.

So, instead of wishing the world a Merry Christmas, I will follow the leader and wish you all a "Happy Schwanza and a Merry New Year."

This is the speech:
