How to Win Splinterlands Battle with "Ferocity" Ruleset
Having won three Ferocity ruleset battles, I can tell what strategy works ahead for a possible win. It is interesting how the Splinterlands game can be that if you observe the battle trends well and document outcomes, you could probably predict the outcome of future battles with similar conditions.
The Ferocity ruleset provides that all units have the Fury ability. It is advised that players should think carefully before including a unit with Taunt in their lineup as they will take double damage from units with Fury.
In battle, a fury ability could manifest as a heightened state of aggression and power, perhaps granting increased strength, speed, and endurance. It could fuel a fighter's determination, making them more formidable and relentless in combat.
I won the first Ferocity ruleset battle with 28 manna cost cap and Kelya Frendul as summoner. I won the second Ferocity ruleset battle with 20 manna cost cap and again with Kelya Frendul as summoner. The two battles were won with the same strategy - good defense from summoner ability and the use of magic attack monsters as the main monsters for the fight.
In a more recent Ferocity ruleset battle, I decided to engage a melee attack monster with the double strike superpower - Grund. Grund is an aggressive solo fighter and I thought it would be a good fit for the Ferocity ruleset. My intent in this battle was to amplify my attacking strength and this was made possible by fielding a summoner with Inspire ability which adds +2 melee attack stats to two friendly monsters - Underboss Fabino.
With 44 manna cost cap, I had the opportunity to select 5 monster units for the battle. My battlefield was typically designed as follows: Grund (10), Arkemis the Bear (12), Mad Ogre Anarchist (6), Goblin Psychic (6), and Regal Peryton (5) in position. Grund and Mad Ogre Anarchist were the monsters selected to receive +2 melee attack. The reason for selecting the two monsters was their ability which was amplified by the Inspire ability of the summoner.
Though the battlefield at the start looked so tough since the opposition used the same summoner as myself. However, I noticed that the lead enemy monster had the "Taunt" ability that is frowned to be a disadvantage in the ruleset. That was the edge my monsters leveraged on to wreak havoc in the enemy's camp.
It was really fun to see Grund dole out 10 melee damage on the enemy monster with the Taunt ability. The enemy team ignored the warning against including a unit with Taunt ability in the lineup since they will take double damage from units with Fury. That was the first unit destroyed among the enemy team in the battle.
At the end of the first round, the enemy team had lost two monster units already. See the screenshots below for the outcomes of the remaining battle rounds.
Arkemis the Bear was a strong support system with the Protect ruleset.
The Winning Strategy
With Underboss Fabino as summoner and Grund as the lead monster. Being a melee attack fight, amplifying the attack stats of the two of my monster units was a smart move. Grund ended up with 5 melee attack stats, while Mad Ogre Anarchist ended up with 4 melee attack stats.
Winning the "Ferocity" ruleset requires that the Splinterlands player decide whether to go for an aggressive attack or an aggressive defense. It was a fruitful win with 4 of my monster units still up and active.
