THE BOND OF DISCORD

Growing up as a child, I have lived with my Grandmother for years, back then I was the only child and my parents barely had enough time for me due to their busy schedule. Living with my Grandmother was actually fun and enjoyable for me because I was like the last born of the house, I had aunties and cousins around and so I learnt and experienced a lot from them. This act of sibling discord happen right before me and though I was a bit younger I could still narrate all that happened.

I had two aunties namely Abigail and Esther, they are identical twins that no one could easily identify. They are both very beautiful, tall and fair, though being their niece I could tell that Abigail who is the youngest is a bit taller than Esther but they are still very identical.

They are very bonded to each other, they loved each other, do things together, wear matching outfits shared things in common that I do yearn to also have a sister that I could love the same way. Abigail and Esther made a promise to stay bonded to each other and to marry on the same day and if possible get married to brothers of the same family.

After their secondary school education, Esther and Abigail were both science students, after writing JAMB, Esther got admitted in the university to study Medicine and Surgery while Abigail was admitted to study Pharmacy. Abigail and Esther were both in the same university and off course were both in the medical field, Esther had always aspired to become a Medical Doctor while Abigail wants to become a pharmacists.

In their four hundred level in school, things began to change when Esther got attracted to Chris who was a final year Pharmacy student. Chris was Abigail’s senior Colleague in pharmacy school, he is tall decent, good looking, intelligent, friendly in fact Chris had all the qualities every lady could admire and so he was every girl’s dream guy, he was the Adonis of the faculty of Pharmacy.

Abigail had a crush on Chris, she loved everything about him but didn’t know how to approach him. She actually did not disclose it to her sister that she had a crush on Chris. Meanwhile Chris had admired Esther a long time but could not summon courage to approach her.

One day, the medical student had a dinner night and Esther being a medical student had to be there, she asked Abigail to come with her but Abigail refused going with her because she had an Exams the next day so she had to read all night in preparation for the exams, this made Esther to go all alone, she was assigned to be the moderator of the day and so she couldn’t stay back.

Esther dressed beautifully to the dinner night because she was the moderator and needed to look alluring before everyone. Chris came alongside with his friend Brian who was a medical student too, Chris was very happy when he discovered that Esther was at the event too and it looked as though his long awaited time has come. He told his friend about it and he encouraged him to approach Esther. After the event, he finally summoned courage to approach Esther, he met Esther and they exchanged pleasantries alongside their phone numbers.

Esther actually fell in love with Chris right from the moment he approached her but she just waited for Chris to declare his intentions before she could tell him how she felt. Getting back to the hostel, she told her Sister everything that happened and how she fell in love at first sight. Unknowing to Abigail that Esther fell in love with the guy she had been crushing on. She was happy for her sister.

After that day, Esther had been Chatting with Chris and they both fixed a date, Esther and Chris went on a date and Chris finally declared his intentions to her and they were both happy to start up their relationship. Esther promised to introduce her twin sister to him. When Esther arrived the hostel she told her sister all that happened and Abigail was anxiously waiting to see her sister’s boyfriend.

The next day Abigail went with her sister to see Chris and to introduce him to her, when they both got there Abigail saw Chris and was surprised, her countenance changed, she couldn’t believe that the guy she had been crushing on is now her sister’s boyfriend, she pretended to be alright and put on a smiling face .when they both reached the hostel she started a quarrel with her sister, telling her that she took the guy she loved away from her. It was then that Esther realized that Abigail had been crushing on Chris for a long time. But it was already late because Esther had already established a relationship with Chris and was not willing to let him go for any reason.

This was when their discord started, Abigail hated her sister for this and cut ties with her, they kept malice with each other and refused to share things in common. It was time for Christmas break, they were back home and still at arm’s length, Grandma discovered that they were not in good terms, she called the both of them and asked what happened, Esther narrated everything and Abigail also did,
Grandma was so disappointed on their attitude, he counselled them and told them not to let anyone come in between the bond they had for each other. She advised them and they both hugged each other, everything went well but Abigail still had an envious mind towards her sister but pretended to be okay with her.

Esther was still in a relationship with Chris and loved him so well, as time went by, Chris proposed to her and she gladly accepted, Abigail on hearing this felt like dying, she also vowed not to give up on Chris. Chris couldn’t equally identify the two twins that sometimes he goes on outings with Abigail thinking that was Esther.

Chris later came into the family, paid the bride price and they were all set for marriage, Esther was so happy but her twin sister felt so envious that her sister will get married before her, Abigail reminded her sister the promise they made, “to get married on the same day”. Esther felt bad for her but told her that she couldn’t wait for her any longer.

The night before Esther’s wedding, after the Bridal Shower, Abigail paid some people to kidnap her sister, Esther was kidnapped after the bridal shower. No one knew what was happening, Abigail acted like her twin sister since no one could possibly identify them, she showed up as the bride on the wedding day.

After the pastor declared both of them as Husband and wife, she was happy that she finally fulfilled her evil desire. Grandma realized this after the wedding and fainted in shock of what Abigail did, she was taken to the hospital and was in coma for two days. Abigail asked the kidnappers to release her sister, she wept bitterly after hearing that grandma was not awake, she openly confessed to everyone what happened, how she allowed her envious mind to conceive such evil, Esther couldn’t believe that her sister could do that to her.

Finally, Grandma was conscious, Abigail had to plead for forgiveness, she begged her sister to forgive her, everyone was surprised but the best revenge is forgiveness. Esther who always had a lovely heart forgave her. Esther and her husband Chris planned their marriage again and were joined as one. Everyone was happy about the union.

Abigail couldn’t stand the guilt, she had to travel to some other state, after a year she came home and is now happily married to with two kids.

I learnt a whole lot from these, to err is human and to forgive is divine. Even though you are twin, God’s timing is the best.
