Whenever I hear the word “Smart work”, I remember a friend of mine who used it as “Smart study”. When we all used to cram every chapter and cover the whole syllabus, he used to prepare a few important chapters saying that when the examiner is offering you flexibility to attempt a few questions rather than all then why are you exhausting your mind? And more astonishing is that he always scored more than us, though his knowledge was confined to selective chapters and topics. This was not only he who was habitual of selective study stating it as smart study. Many in Pakistan do this because their final goal is to pass the paper and get good grades instead of obtaining knowledge and getting acquainted with a wide range of topics added to courses.

Their definition of smart study is confined to selective study because it is smartness in the study according to them to do what the examiner demands instead of what their field asks.
Smart study is a very dynamic, innovative, and composed tool that increases the knowledge, creativity, practicality, and ingenuity of students. Rather, than keeping students busy in learning definitions, smart study promotes the practical applications of theory. Assessment after such study must also be smart rather than traditional exams. The true purpose of exams is to filter out capable minds instead of increasing the literacy ratio by promoting even those students who are not worthy.

Recently, a national medical and dental college admission test was held a place in Pakistan, and like every year the allegations of already leakage, insufficient arrangement and facilitation, and syllabus questions, were cast on. The protests have been held to re-conduct the test. And almost all the stakeholders whether it is students, academies, testing authorities, or universities, are responsible for such a defunct process. The problem lies here testing authorities still stick to the traditional way of screening, students have confined themselves to academic books only and the government has failed to advance the process.

With the advancement in the digital world, the solution to every problem is at a second distance. A highly developed AI system can give you answers to every question by analyzing all the facts, theories, innovations, and advancements in the blink of an eye. So allowing the students to get access to the internet while attempting paper will automatically attract them to AI which can formulate answers to every question no matter, how many tricky questions you set, with access to AI and the internet, students will find or formulate answers to every question.

I have always spoken about advancement in the education department by converting existing systems with a smart system. For example, if I talk about Pharmacy, the exam must be an assessment test to check the grip of the student on the subject and how much the student is aware of current innovations. But to conduct such exams, the courses and teaching style must also be advanced. Instead of wasting time on previous drugs and useless theories, students must be exposed to practical fields. The credit hours must be arranged in a way that students spend the maximum of their time in practice by dealing with clinical patients and the regimens being used on them.

My suggestions:

The process and trend of teaching and courses must be renewed by adding practical exposure along with theory.

Students must be made aware of every innovation. They must be trained to acquire valuable knowledge by themselves.

The exam must be concept-based and must be able to assess the knowledge and capability of the student. Students must be asked question not from a specific book instead the question must be general and wide in answer.
