Dealing With Prideful Individuals

Hello everyone,
Pleasure to be here and to share my idea about pride and how one can handle it with others.

Personal I consider Pride to be both productive and unproductive. Because there is a way pride can be used in the right way, It can inspire us to succeed and provide us with drive to get the things done we set to do. But, here, if taken to that level that we now overdo, it becomes a wall of sorts, a way of keeping people at arm’s length. It has probably happened in everyone's life where we have meet a person who is too pompous that they hardly interrelate well with the other person. I remember one case when I encountered such a task and the several things I got to learn out of it.

I once had my coworker who was very promising throughout his serving with the company. But he was so proud of himself, you know when someone is intelligent and smart as well, he feels everyone don't matter but him, he uses his position and connections to harassed other employees to make them change their behavior by giving them a hostile working environment. He Used to disregard everybody’s input and prefer to make fun of their ideas. First, I attempted to speak with him rationally in an effort to find a solution that would close the space between us. Unfortunately this only seemed to make him bigger headed than before.

It dawned on me that one could not tackle the issue head on and get any where so I changed tact. I worked hard, brought my work outputs to his notice, and as much as possible refrained from any form of communication with him. Because must of the times I used to get ideas from him to make my work better but I stopped, I started focusing on myself and believing in me that I can do it too. This strategy helped to retain my focus and keep me out of conflicts so that I would remain on top of my work and do well. Others in the team started to do the same and formed a group front that subtly left him as the only disruptive member. In the end the management stepped into the scene in a direct approach to giving a solution to the problem.

Personally, I can all recall moments where I have had to face circumstances that have seen pride take the drivers seat, from my own personal experiences, . At one point, my overconfidence in my method caused me to sever an alliance with a friend I was considering very close. That relationship was really mended after one had to sit down and really ask himself why he did what he did before he could apologize. This I learned that one should always be humble and be willing to take or listen to what other people are saying. This experience taught me the importance of humility and the value of listening to others.

Proud people can be very annoying to deal or interact with and that's why I tend to avoid them, and just focus on what helps me and maintain a positive relationship.

Yeah if you want to follow them, you may end up being offended

I’m glad you had that sit down moment with your friend to let him realize he was going the wrong path. Most people don’t realize it until someone brings their attention to it.
