I totally agree with the words of R. H. Sin which says "some women are afraid of the fire; but others become the fire"

Growing up, I had so many dreams and one of it was to become a lawyer but the greatest hinderance I had was the societal stereotype about female lawyers.
I recall talking to my dad about my ambition and he rebuked me immediately, his strong reason was that nobody marries a Female Lawyers because of fear that she will not be submissive to them. I grew and lived in an African society where a lot of people belief that a woman's place is in the kitchen and that if she was ever to do more with her life then it should be to take care of her kids.
The general belief then was that any woman who advances academically will be proud and so most women were only allowed to teach in some local schools around the community.

I got so bitter when I realized that my dreams were just a facade but deep within I knew there was always a way out and that someone.needed to break the bias. I decided to take up a career in the scientific aspect which was to become a petroleum-engineer but again I was advices to pursue another career and that I wasn't very good with science related subject in high school..

This kind of mindset has been a major limitation to the growth of our society and has made some of the men around grow to be demons instead of being a support system.

Today I am a Teacher not the Lawyer I wanted to be but I made a promise to raise women who would stand in the gap. I teach my students everyday to be resilient and goal-getters. They sing it everyday "that they are great and can't be reduced" . Being in the teaching field has helped me understand that our teachers too have a part to play if our daughters will rise above the limit.

I belief that change begins with me, so while waiting to eradicate the myopic mindset form the world, in my little corner, I ensure that no girl under my tutelage will be defeated in her career.
I usually encourage my students to get acquainted with the writings/books of the world class Nigerian female writer @Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie because it has a way of ripping off the scares in our eyes and opening up the girl child to the possibilities of all she can become.

Today I have a student who is doing exceptional things in the University of Ibadan. She studies Law and she calls often to appreciate me for never allowing her stay behind.
I usually say that I raise my girls to be the FIRE.

My advice to all the mother's, big sisters, Aunties, caretakers, etc is this Teach the girl child and show her the possibilities that she can be more than just a wife and a mother, let her know that she has a pert to play in the Nation Building Mandate.
