Picture prompt story

The town of Zuru had suffered a devastating flood which occurred due to the breakdown of Sola dam. Zuru, a farming community, became a ghost town in the wake of the flood which attracted a sympathy visit by the king and his wife. It was so bad that Sonita, the king's wife broke down in tears.

After the fixing of the dam in a record time, life returned to normalcy one year after. And to commemorate the first anniversary of the normalcy of life, a great party was organized in which Sonita was a special guest of honour in recognition of her teardrops that fell on the soil of Zuru.

After the field events which featured cultural displays, singing and dances, a dinner was set for Sonita and a handful of some dignitaries, mostly women. Among them was Mary, a former beauty queen.

Mary was the cynosure of everyone in her characteristic smashing outfit which was sparkling. The chandelier was on, and so, enhanced the sparkling. Her appearance was as if 10,000 stars were resting on her.

It didn't take time for Sonita to notice her and invited her to her side.

"I'm interested in you", Sonita started.

"Thanks", Mary greeted, smiling broadly.

"Your gait, the way you carry yourself is outstanding. I like that".

"I'm honoured", Mary replied, stooping a little.

"Even the manner you hold your cup, and sip from it is so tantalizing that one is tempted to wonder if it's the same whisky we're all taking".

"You make feel on top of the world".

"What business do you do?" Sonita asked, guessing into Mary's eyes.

"I'm into beauty pageant".

"You must be a beauty queen".

"Yes. I was".

"No, not was... You're a beauty queen".

"Thanks". Mary replied, appearing shy.

"I'm curious about your rings. They're lovely".

"Oh! Apart from my wedding ring, each represents a crown I won, a beauty pageant victory".

"All this!" Sonita exclaimed.

"Yes, your excellency. The two on this middle finger were won in the same year".

"Great!" Exclaimed Sonita, almost shouting.

Finally, to cut a long story short, in the end, Mary became Sonita's ambassador plenipotentiary thereafter.
