Even Stevens: Weekly Battle Mage Secrets
Only units with even mana costs may be used.
This rule does not apply to summoners.
Hello SPL family
Another week, another set of Battle Mage secrets. This week's highlighted ruleset is Even Stevens. In Even Stevens, you can only use monsters with even mana costs in battle, but you can still use a summoner with an odd mana cost. Currently, the lowest mana is zero and the highest is 16 mana. At present, there's only one monster with 16 mana, and that's Rage from Rebellion Airdrop Edition. There's a connection with Rage in this battle because he's part of my lineup. The battle I'm sharing is from the Silver Wild Tournament I participated in. My battle had some luck involved because I thought the Rage I was using was level 2, where he would have the weapons training ability. It was only later that I realized my Rage was only level 1, so he didn't have the weapons training ability. But even though I misused Rage, I still won the battle. Looking at it, it might seem like I would lose because I only used 3 monsters with attack abilities compared to my opponent, who had all units with attacks. Let's see how I won, even though my original plan was to use weapons training along with 2 non-attack monsters.
MY BATTLE
MY BATTLE
The battle condition is 38 mana caps The elements that you can not use are fire, death, and dragon. The rulesets are even stevens, weak magic, and silenced summoners.
TEAM COMPOSITION
Because one of the rulesets is silenced summoners, wherein summoners cannot provide additional stats, buffs, debuffs, or grant/use any abilities, I chose Brighton Bloom from my card collection to join the tournament. I selected him just so I could use a dragon unit in the battle. For the 1st position, considering the presence of the weak magic ruleset, wherein magic attacks hit armor first before health, I expect my opponent to use a melee monster up front, so I chose Djinn Chwala as the tank. Djinn Chwala is a melee attacker with a thorns ability. I chose him so that if my opponent indeed uses a melee attacker in the front line, the opponent will receive additional damage when directly attacking Djinn Chwala. For the 2nd position, I chose Vruz, a melee attacker with sneak and martyr abilities. I plan to assault the opponent's backline. The martyr ability is to provide an additional +1 to all stats to adjacent monsters in case Vruz dies in battle. For the 3rd position, I selected Nimbledook Scout, a non-attack monster with backfire and inspire ability. Inspire gives an additional +1 melee damage to allies, while backfire allows for returning damage to the opponent if they miss a physical attack against Nimbledook Scout. For the 4th position, I chose Rage, a magic attacker with void and fly abilities. My original plan was to use Rage because of its weapons training abilities. With weapons training, Nimbledook Scout and Iidri Fyre were supposed to have attack abilities. Unfortunately, to my dismay, my Rage was only level 1. For the 5th position, I chose Iidri Fyre, another non-attack monster with taunt and redemption abilities. Iidri Fyre's taunt forces the opponent to focus their attacks on her. If she dies, her redemption ability triggers, giving +1 damage to all of the opponent's units. Lastly, in the last position, I selected Furious Chicken, a level 3 melee attacker with no additional ability.

KEYNOTES
The way Iidri Fyre was utilized was effective because of her taunt ability, causing all attacks from the opponent to target her first. Because of this, she quickly dies, and upon her death, her redemption ability triggers, granting the opponent +1 physical damage.
BATTLE HIGHLIGHTS
- I didn't succeed in utilizing Rage to use his weapons training ability. However, due to his high damage and flying ability, Rage managed to win the battle.
The additional speed provided by Vruz's martyr's ability also helped trigger Nimbledook Scout's backfire ability.
The enemy's misses against Rage were also a significant factor due to its flying ability and speed.
