My Splinterlands Journey
Hey, so today I'm writing about my Splinterlands journey for the Splinterlands Social Media Challenge.
Discovery of Splinterlands
I discovered Splinterlands (or Steemmonsters at the time) at a very early stage of the project, maybe even on the first day of the website going public.
At the time I was just recently told about Steemit website by my friend @m2nnari. I was intrigued by the idea of earning cryptocurrency through writing blog posts and I got instantly hooked.
He also invited me to the Estonian community around STEEM where I met many cool people who shared the same interests as me from my own country.
I followed the news and updates on Steemit and I guess I just found Splinterlands by just doing my daily browse around the platfrom.
I vividly remember reading about Steemmonsters and the idea of earning through playing a card game and thinking that this is even cooler than writing blog posts to earn cryptocurrency. I fell in love at first sight.
Sadly I don't know the exact dates of me discovering Steemmonsters as I didn't join the discord server immediately, because at the time I just didn't like Discord as a platfrom and didn't use it as much. When I search right now my first message in Splinterlands discord server is from 6th of March in 2018. And in my Splinterlands profile it says "Battling since May 2018".
When I first opened the Splinterlands website, I'm pretty sure the Alpha pack sale hadn't even started yet.
So I'd say, that I'm a veteran of the game.
Duration of participation
I have a fun thing I can say about my participation in Splinterlands, When I turned 20 years old in 2022 I had been playing Splinterlands for 4 years already, and in 2023 May before my Birthday in June I was still barely 20 years old but had been playing Splinterlands for 5 years at that point, so I have been playing Splinterlands for a whole quarter of my life.
I've been pretty consistently playing as well, I've only had very small breaks here and there, but on a bigger picture I can say that I've been playing Splinterlands from 2018 to 2024 non stop.
Time spent in Splinterlands
My current routine is to play everyday to get around 4-6 daily gold chests, then claim loot that my Lands have produced, then claim SPS rewards and then read or chat in the Discord maverick chatroom while I browse through the card market to keep myself up to date with everything that's going on. (Back when we didn't have reward points, but straight quests to complete for daily rewards).
When Battles first released I remember having one of the longest daily quest completed streaks in the whole game, my streak broke when I had to spend a week in the Hospital and didn't get a chance to play.
Accomplishments
I don't feel like I've accomplished anything special in particular in Splinterlands, I think my whole 5-6 year journey has been a huge accomplishment in of itself. To stick around one game and feel myself at home in this one community is a pretty rare thing nowadays I feel like.
But I have managed to reach Champion in the past, for that I got a few champion points and I've completed over 30,000 battles.
When Mystery potions were still a thing and there were 3 Super rare Legendaries with only 90 of each given out, I actually managed to pull 1 of every single one of them, and I even made a post about it. My top 3 Luckiest moments in Splinterlands (Luckiest player in Splinterlands)
And to who remembers how the Mystery potions worked, I only ever bought the 25% ones.
Upcoming goals
I don't have too many specific goals at the moment, I'm more just going with the flow right now, but some things I would like to reach would be:
- 50,000 SPS Staked
- 100% Completion of Soulbound cards (Gladiatior + Rewards)
- Acquire 10 Land plots
- Get every airdrop card from the upcoming Rebellion conflicts
I would have more SPS, but I have had times in my life where I needed some extra money and I usually took it out of my SPS stack.
Advice for beginners
It's so hard for me to imagine being a beginner right now in Splinterlands as I've been here for literally over 25% of my whole life.
But from my current perspective, these are the 3 things I would advise for new people
- Find a guild
This is really important for your earning potential as you get SPS and Gladius cards from participating in Guild Brawls as well as some extra benefits and discounts in Ranked and in the Shop.
Also this is a huge social aspect of the game and a way to make yourself some Splinterlands friends. I have only seen wholesome and friendly communities in Splinterlands and other people is the best source of information and help that you will need
- Join the discord server
Splinterlands discord server is also a great source of information and help that you will need. Almost any question will be answered very quickly when you ask it in Tavern.
Also it's the fastest way to find out about updates to the game.

- Focus on the game rather than the monetary aspect
Try to find enjoyment in the game, there are multiple different ways to play Splinterlands (Ranked, tournaments, Brawls, Rent cards, 3rd party games, etc.)
I myself love the game and I find great entertainment in just doing Ranked games and brawls, maybe a tournament here and there, but if you get bored with these options, then try to rent yourself a different deck and try out new play styles.
And if you still need some more stimulation, some time ago I discoevered Splinterroyale which is a 3rd party game made by a guy name Wolf.
