TIL FreshWater JellyFish Exist !

Nature never seizes to amaze me !

I always thought jellyfish are nuisances found in sea waters but today I learned there is actually one species that occurs in lakes all over the world!

It's commonly known as the peach blossom jellyfish (Craspedacusta sowerbii) and it originates from the Yangtze basin in China.

However, these days it has been introduced in all continents and chances are individuals may be thriving in a lake near you. Unless you live in the continent of Antarctica. But maybe climate change will change that soon lel

This jelly is pretty small, with a diameter of about an inch. It looks something like this:

Ok, I think you got it by now 😆

In case you wonder, they are totally harmless to humans. Yes, like most jelly the species does have stinging cells (that they use to catch zooplankton), but they are too small and can't penetrate the human skin.

So if you are ever in a lake and see any jellyfish be afraid not. Swimming is safu :)

As always, here's a link to Wikipedia if you'd like to learn more about these little fellas!

I'll throw an @enginewitty tag since he enjoys strange animals as much as I do before ending this post.

Ok. That's it.

Bye 🫂
