Man With Shitty Metal Detector Unearths Chunky Nugget

Did I say shitty? Ok, technically it was faulty.

So, here's how the story goes.

A treasure hunter called Richard Brock, 67, that has been metal detecting for over 30 years went for a meetup last May with some fellow metal detectors im Shropshire.

Not only did he came a bit late to the party, his equipment was also faulty. But sometimes the fun is all that matters...

"The machine I was using was pretty much kaput — it was only half working,"

Yet, Lady Luck didn't care. Just 20 minutes into the party and Brock hit gold. Literally. And it was one chunky piece! The nugget he found had a weight of 64.8 grams or about two ounces.

"It just goes to show that it doesn't really matter what equipment you use. If you are walking over the find and are alert enough to what might be lurking underneath the soil, that makes all the difference."

The nugget is currently on auction here and is reportedly expected to go for at least $37.000 k which is wayyyyyyy more then its melting value. Maybe it's because a nugget that size is a rare find? Dunno, I smell bullshit considering how an oz of gold is today worth $2,213.39.

Oh, almost forgot. Here's a photo f the nugget:

For comparison, the largest gold nugget ever found in the U.K. had a weight of 121.3 grams or about 4 oz.

Anyways, fun story. You can click here if you want to read a bit more on it😀

You do metal detecting right? What's the biggest you have found?

Well, that's certainly an interesting story. I didn't even know there was naturally occurring gold in the UK.

I know from going to a lot of gem and mineral shows with my wife, that there are rockhounds out there who will pay stupid amounts of money for so-called "specimens"... that seems like a lot of money for a little over 2 oz of gold! But I also know that if it is truly rare, melt value has very little to do with the price.

Yeah, people will pay idiotic amounts for one of a time novelties and stuff!

Oh my gosh, that's some luck there! I've always wanted to have a metal detector but have no clue if there is any good area to hunt for things here lol.. should check what these things cost to decide if I want to have on to give that a try. I'm going for gold! LOL

That is the weird thing about luck. You never know what will happen and he definitely got lucky with that gold drop.

I feel Australia is prime for this, I have had many friends head out and actually find hundreds of dollars worth of gold. Although the biggest winners are the ones that hit the beach after a hot day
