Holy Silver - Part 3

Continuing my Holy Silver series, today we have another Greek Orthodox icon that I have inherited. Like the rest of the heirlooms I have showed, there's no intention to sell and hopefully I will pass em on the next generation. It be funny though if blew these holy pieces..to enjoy some hookers and cocaine 🫠🤣

Judging from its looks, it's probably the oldest icon I have. If I was to guess, I'd say it's about 40-50 years old, maybe older.

Let's have a look:

Time has given it a nice black tint. Dunno about you, but I like it!

Imo, the craftsmanship is amazing!

On the back there isn't much too see, other than the COA on multiple languages, informing us that the icon is made of 950 silver:

There's also a small engraving on the front, noting the purity if you pay a bit of attention

As always, a comparison vs a standard euro coin

Like the other two icons I have shown you, this also depicts Mary and baby Jesus, or Theotokos as known by Greek Orthodoxs:

Theotokos (Greek: Θεοτόκος) is a title of Mary, mother of Jesus, used especially in Eastern Christianity. The usual Latin translations are Dei Genitrix or Deipara (approximately "parent (fem.) of God"). Familiar English translations are "Mother of God" or "God-bearer" – but these both have different literal equivalents in Greek, Μήτηρ Θεοῦ and Θεοφόρος ("Who gave birth to one who was God", "Whose child was God", respectively) source

I worked as a Gold smith in the past, and the person who did this art work is called with the name of ( Jaraiya ) , it's not easy to do, but Human's are know to do amazing and unique work which is shown in this art work.
