🦉 Farewell feast! 🦉
It's been a while since I made a food shit post 😂
Yesterdat we had a small food feast with a good friend that had a life changing job offer far far away and we won't be seeing him a while...
This is just a small taste of what we feasted on..
I was planning to take more photos but we were having a really good time so I said fuck it and just enjoyed myself...
But I did take a photo of one of our farewell gifts :)
A silver owl from Niue Islands :)
Since I started stacking silver about two years ago I find myself gifting some again and again...
And those on the receiving side always love it as it is just such an un-orthodox gift. There are always follow up question like oh wow, how much it is worth, who makes it etc etc..
And these owls are just one of my favorite pieces to gift as they are directly linked to our Greek heritage:
In Greek mythology, a little owl (Athene noctua) traditionally represents or accompanies Athena, the virgin goddess of wisdom, or Minerva, her syncretic incarnation in Roman mythology.[2] Because of such association, the bird—often referred to as the "owl of Athena" or the "owl of Minerva"—has been used as a symbol of knowledge, wisdom, perspicacity and erudition throughout the Western world. source and further info
I have probably got over 20 of these owl coins from @goldrooster , and I have gifted about half of them... Honestly, it's a bit painful gifting them away since I love them... But it's one of the reasons they are such a special gift, reserved only for special occasions and special friends.
Plus people love them since they are a symbol of wisdom yada yada yada :)
Coin Info
Here's some info on the coin in case you are curious.
As aforementioned, they are issued by Niue Islands and are inspired by by the "Tetradrachm", an ancient Greek coin:
The Niue Athenian Owl 1 oz Silver Bullion Coin is inspired by the ‘Tetradrachm’, an Ancient Greek coin with a face value of four drachmae. Struck in honour of Athena, the Greek Tetradrachm coin featured an image of the goddess in its obverse and an owl, the official polis of Athens complete with olive branch and crescent moon, on its reverse. The owl is a symbol of truth and wisdom and, per ancient mythology, sat on Athena’s ‘blind side’ to enable her to see the whole truth.
The coin was in wide circulation between 510 to 38 BC and is the best-known of all ancient coins. source and further info
Athenian tetradrachm from around 500 BC. Athena head one side, Athena owl on the other source
As a sidenote, tetradrachms came in various designs, not just owls, depending on the time and city-state they were minted. You can check some other cool designs and learn more about their history at wikipedia if you like!
As for the modern pieces from Niue, they have a face value of 2 dollars and each piece weights 1 oz of 0.999 silver.
Definitely one of my favorite bullions :)
Here's a link to numista with more info. Plenty of places to buy one, just Google for Niue Athena Silver coin! There are also some other versions, e.g. with color or a bigger size!
Ok friends, this is it for today! See you soon with more silver...and food :D
