Ok, let's start the week with one of my recent silver additions!

It's yet again a 10 mark coin from Germany.

I just love these little German beauties. They come cheap, have a decent size, always feature a sexy eagle and have some cool or not so cool designs on the side. The only negative thing is usually their mediocre purity, at 0.625.

Today's piece was minted in 1972:

As expected from a German coin, the observe side features prominently an eagle, this one is designed by Doris Waschk-Balz. I have talked countless times about eagles and Germany so I guess by now you know how they are a common emblem of everything German so let's just flip the coin and see what's on the other side!

This side had me confused at first, thinking I was looking at a deformed goat or something. My coin being a little beat down doesn't help much 😂

Turns out it's the Munich Olympic Stadium, as seen from above, which makes sense considering this is a commerorative piece for the 1972 Olympic Games that took place in Munich.

Due to the coin's condition it's not easily visible but the edge is also engraved with the latin words

In English, this translates to "Faster, Higher, Stronger" a motto that was adopted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894 and has since become a widely recognized symbol of the Olympic movement.

It reflects the aspirational and competitive spirit of the Olympic Games, encouraging athletes to constantly strive for excellence, push their limits, and surpass their previous achievements. The motto represents the core values of the Olympic Games, which include promoting athleticism, sportsmanship, and international cooperation through the pursuit of higher physical, mental, and ethical standards in sport. Ok, I think we learned enough about the coin's History. Let's talk about the actual silver!

We have 15.5 g of silver, with a purity of 0.635 giving us about 9.84 grams of silver, which is pretty decent! And the coin is quite chunky, at least when compared to the regular coins used today

Ok, that's it for today friends. I have two more similar marks coming up... Plus another two I just ordered today. My German eagle flock is getting bigger and more diverse 😂

I don't know why a lot of coins and currencies favors having an eagle as an emblem. Sweet, it's in a decent condition

Pretty nice coin. I also would have been confused by the picture if you hadn't said anything.

A sweet German commemorative coin. Unfortunately, the 1972 Games where not just remembered for the athletic achievements.

The screaming eagle design keeps reminding me of this chicken gif.

That is a nice coin! Used to live in the Olympic Campus area before, which is an enjoyable place to live. When you are fancy a trip to Munich, will take you to see it in real life.

From a time when Germany had real currency, even if it was a debased metal.

Yeah, 0.635 is no ideal but the sexy eagle and the good weight makes up for it 🦅🦅🦅

Better than the garbage Euro coins!
Did you see the news that the BRICS countries are finally going to launch their gold backed currency. These guys are out to F*ck the $USD and I hope, the CBDCs.
