12 Mighty Orphans, Predictable but Good

avatar

It was about time I finally stumbled on a decent Netflix watch, as most of my feed recommendations have been utter shit the past few weeks 😂

12 Orphans is your typical sport movie, where a talented coach beats all odds with a team consisting of a bunch of losers. And like with other movies of the niche, this one is also largely based on true events. With the the mandatory creative liberties to make it even more epic :)

The film takes place during the Great Depression:

Haunted by his mysterious past, a devoted high-school football coach leads a scrawny team of orphans to the state championship during the Great Depression and inspires a broken nation along the way. source

The true story of the Mighty Mites, the football team of a Fort Worth orphanage who, during the Great Depression, went from playing without shoes, or even a football, to playing for the Texas state championships. Over the course of their winning season, these underdogs and their resilient spirit became an inspiration to their city, state, and an entire nation in need of a rebound, even catching the attention of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. source

I really have no complaints from the film. Casting, acting, visuals etc everything is above average.

All in all, an epic and inspiring David Vs Goliath underdog sport story. And who doesn't love a good underdog story? Especially one based on real events.

Despite not being much of a sports (let alone football) fan I loved the film. Sports fans will probably enjoy it even more, especially with all the historic tit bits.

After finishing the film I headed over wikipedia to learn more about the team and rusty. And imo, this should be the end goal of every historic movie.

An easy 8/10 from me. Definitely worth a watch!

Haven't came Across any Good series/movie on Netflix yet this year... Seems like will have to wait till summer.

Anyway, not a fan of sports myself but that description is something interesting...

imo, this should be the end goal of every historic movie.

I second this... Last time I watched something in historic genre I went to Wikipedia instantly to see factos.

I’m going to have to watch that. My dad was a huge sports fan and historian of sports. I’ve heard the story from him as a kid. I want to see how close it is to his story.
