๐ŸŒ That's One Expensive Banana Sticker๐ŸŒ

This is a hilarious story I stumbled upon like a week ago. You may have heard of error coins and error bills. Maybe you even own one. Depending on the type, these errors may carry a small or big premium to the face value but sometimes they are auctioned for wife changing money.

But this is not just another error. It's the mother of errors. Meet the current holder for the world's most expensive error note:

Screenshot_20240620-214730~2.png

Img378890_tb20201110131201022.jpg

To the untrained eye this would like yet another 20 $ note with a banana sticker. But a closer inspection reveals the sticker came straight from the printing process as it has the original ink and everything:

The banana sticker became affixed to the sheet sometime after the second stage of printing, partially obscuring the word TWENTY behind the green seal of the Treasury Department. However, the banana sticker picked up some of the ink from the third stage of printing, including from the green seal itself and the adjacent serial number. This confirms the error as a genuine one that occurred at the BEP facility. source

This is an extremely rare type of error note called in the "retained obstruction" category, where a foreign object (in this case the banana sticker) gets stuck during the printing process on the note and remains there even after the bill enters circulation.

Nicknamed the "Del Monte" note, due to the banana produce sticker, it was discovered by an Ohio college student in 2003 during an ATM withdrawal. The student later sold it on eBay for $10,000 but that was only the beginning. The bill was auctioned in 2006 for $25,000 and in 2021 it was auctioned for...

$396,000 USD

Yes, almost 400k fucking USD for a note with a fucking banana sticker. ๐Ÿ˜‚

And with that price, the Del Monte brole the world record for the most expensive error note which it still holds as we speak.

..
...
....

I guess the moral of the story is to take a closer look next time a note with a sticker falls in your hands ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hahahhahahaha and still the same code 4011 used in the groceries in here

If the label on a banana you purchase has a four-digit code like 4011 is the code for bananas, it indicates that the banana was grown conventionally using pesticides. There will be four-digit stickers on every produce that is cultivated traditionally.
The sticker for an organically cultivated fruit or vegetable will have five digits, beginning with "9." The PLU of an organically grown banana, for instance, would be 94011.
A banana, like all other fruits and vegetables, has the same produce code regardless of where you purchase it.

It's an interesting bill and I wonder what the banks would do if they do find it. I guess they might take it out of circulation directly.
