Visiting the amazing Golubat fortress in Serbia
Visiting the amazing Golubat fortress in Serbia
I love betrayal ....but I hate betrayers!

Good evening dear travel lovers, after a period of almost a month and a half of my absence from this community today I have the opportunity to share with you a new adventure of mine had this weekend, in Romania we had a long weekend due to the fact that it is a very big holiday and we had an extra day off.
Today we visit together the imposing Golubat fortress, located very close to the town of Golubat in Serbia.
I really have to tell you how we got here from Romania because we had some adventures to get to the fortress.
The route followed by us was as simple as possible, until we crossed the border with Serbia and followed the course indicated by the gps, it tells us that at some point we have to cross the dune by ferry towards the fortress.
About 80 km after crossing the border we returned to the port from where the ferry to Golubac was leaving, here surprise, the port was closed, everything was deserted.
I quickly did some research on the map and discovered another route that I followed.
Another very important thing, here in Serbia there is a problem with the internet, because Serbia not being part of the European Union they have other tariffs for internet and mobile data, the cost for 100mb is 3,36euro.
Finally we arrive at the other place to take the ferry, the place called Ram Schela Ferry.
Here we saw the happiest dogs travelling by ferry.
Here of course we asked several people in English which ferry goes to Golubac, but surprise no one understood or spoke English, but to our surprise we found a person who understood and spoke a little Romanian, so we managed to take the ferry we should.
After a trip of about 15 minutes by ferry we finally reached the other shore and from here we had about 40 km to the fortress.
These kilometers we covered quickly on the streets after which we passed by some amazing views of the Danube River.
Once we arrived we parked the car in a place where we didn't have to pay for parking, but of course the citadel had its own paid parking.
This place conquered our hearts from the first sight, since the entrance, when we arrived it was not very crowded, at the ticket office there were 7 people in front of us, with a little patience we managed to buy tickets that cost us 7euro per person.
Here you can find numerous boards to help you find your way around and plan your visit.
Very importantly, it is not allowed to fly drones here, and it is not allowed in Serbia either.
As I said before, this place impressed us right from the entrance.
At first glance the fortress was built in the mountains, and part of it was in the waters of the Danube river.
Unfortunately we couldn't visit the whole fortress because one part could only be visited if you had special climbing equipment and the other part was only open on certain days, but I think it's worth visiting anyway.
The name of the fortress derives from a legend that says that the queen of Byzantium, Helen the beautiful, was imprisoned in the highest tower of the fortress and that she raised pigeons, in love with their gentleness and beauty. Thus the fortress was given the name Golubac Fortress, or Pigeon Fortress, built on the ruins of the Roman castrum Columbaria. Due to its strategic location, the fortress has served over the centuries as a fortress for defence, a port, a customs house and a trading Cetatea Golubac.
I took a lot of pictures for this reason I divided the presentation of Golubac fortress in two parts, one in which I show you the way to the fortress and the fortress on the outside, and in the second part I will show you the fortress on the inside, a splendid fortress that I recommend you to visit.
