Opatija, a combination of romance and elegance on the Adriatic coast in Croatia
Hello to all my followers and visitors of this post, I hope you are well, today I want to take you with me on a walk around a very beautiful place that I had the opportunity to discover in the last adventure I had in Croatia.
Being in Croatia for a few days we decided to stay in the small town of Rijeka and from here we will do different routes through Croatia, so all my posts here in Croatia will be related to this small town because from here we will start every morning.
So we did and in the afternoon we took the car and headed to the small resort on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, Opatija, we had to travel about 25 km, about half an hour, everything went very well, at the entrance to the resort was a little crowded but we managed, we quickly looked for a place to leave the car, we did not have many options and we had to leave the car in a private parking with payment.
From our experience in Croatia we already knew that the parking lots are very expensive, but luck came upon us and we found a private parking for only 1euro/hour, I must say that we parked the car in parking lots where the cost per hour was 5 euros.
As soon as I entered the resort I was speechless, compared to the small town of Rijeka this resort was absolutely fabulous, renovated buildings, amazing parks, elegance, refinement everything was out of the box.
The vibe of the city took us by surprise, in good spirits, we got carried away walking through the crowded streets of the city, despite the fact that it was getting a little cloudy outside and the chances of rain were increasing.
I come with a question for you, what city does this resort on the Adriatic Sea look like?
I forgot to mention that I came here mainly for the most beautiful promenade in Croatia (that's my opinion), which stretches along the coast of the Gulf of Kvarner (11-12 km), LUNGOMARE.
But we didn't give up and continued exploring the Lungomare promenade, at first glance it looks like this promenade takes you to a romantic realm when closer to the sea when climbing some stairs you can see the sea from above.
Moreover, in some areas there were some kind of artificial pools where you could go down into the clear sea water.
Unfortunately the water was quite cold and we didn't have our bathing equipment with us, so we could enjoy those amazing places, coming back on the promenade we reach a very important monument, the Seagull Girl, we noticed that this place was very popular for pictures.
Our walk through this place made the time pass very quickly, with little sprinkles it started to rain so we decided to retire to a restaurant for a meal before heading back to Rijeka.
From the reviews of restaurants in the area we managed to choose one of them (there are many with very high ratings) called LUMBER, here we ate very well, about prices I can not say they are low, but they are not exaggerated.
In Optajia we had an excellent afternoon where we combined beautiful beaches, a small fishing port, great walks with Croatian culinary experience.
If you ever plan a visit to Croatia, I highly recommend to put this resort on the map, it is really worth it.

I always like to see Opatija. It is indeed one of the most elegant cities on the Adriatic coast.
Indeed this Adriatic seaside resort is amazing with many places to visit.
I really have to visit Croatia! Opatija is so charming.
I'm surprised to hear that Rijeka is a small city. For some reason, I keep hearing about Rijeka and many people go there, so I was under impression that it was big 🙂
It looks like it was a big cold when you were there. When did you visit? Recently?
I visited Croatia and Rijeka almost two weeks ago, yes, I made a mistake saying that Rijeka is a small city, honestly it seemed so to me, in fact it is spread over a very large area, also here I climbed very very many stairs (I don't want to see more stairs this month).
I have to admit it wasn't that cold, it was really great weather, the only minus was that we couldn't swim in the sea, the water was quite cold.
With a population of approximately 100k people, Rijeka is actually the third largest city in Croatia :)
Yes you are absolutely right, but seeing it so spread out on the hills I didn't think it had such a large population, and also here in this town I had the experience of climbing stairs, gosh I don't want to see stairs anymore😉
Thanks for stopping by.
