Colosseum, the gladiatorial arena in the heart of Rome, Italy
Hello dear travellers from everywhere
Have you ever heard of gladiatorial combat?
If you have heard or read about them today we will go together to visit the Colosseum, the place where more than seven million tourists pass every year, so if you come here you have to be very patient.
I give you a piece of advice when you decide to visit such a sight hunted by millions of tourists to buy your ticket online, even so you will have to spend quite a long time in line.
Why am I telling you this?
Because we left this place to visit on the last full day we had in Rome, thinking that, being a weekday, it wouldn't be so crowded and we could buy tickets on the spot.
But it didn't.
Let me tell you from the beginning how we got here and what we managed to do here.
Every day in Rome starts with breakfast and then we walk a few steps to the bus stop where we take the bus that will take us quite close to the Colosseum.
We arrived on a main street paved with cubic stone that seems to be partially closed to cars or public transport, the only ones that had access there were Hop On Hop Off coaches or those with tourists.
The imposing Colosseum was making its imposing presence felt as we walked down that street but when we got closer we had a surprise, there were so many people in line that I had the feeling that all of Rome is visiting the Colosseum now, can you imagine it was one day of the week, what is it like on weekends or holidays, I don't even want to know.
Analyzing the situation I noticed that that kilometric row is very difficult, so I made the decision not to visit the Colosseum inside, but to admire it only from the outside.
From what I have read the Colosseum is open every day except January 1st and December 25th.
Visiting hours may vary depending on the time of year.
For a few minutes I joined a group that had a guide, from here I learned that this Colosseum was huge with a capacity of over 15,000 seats, over 80 entrances, having so many entrances the flow of people could be very high leading to the rapid filling of seats here.
To learn more about the history of the Colosseum and how it was structured and especially how those gladiator fights were organized you can find here.
In conclusion, if you are planning a visit to Rome, don't forget to put the Colosseum on your map, it is worth the experience of visiting a gladiator arena.
Surely you will be amazed by its beauty both during the day but also when it gets dark (after dark the Colosseum is beautifully illuminated), another tip I want to bring forward is that when you stand in line to enter the Colosseum or when you find yourself in a crowd of people you don't know to take care of your personal belongings, yes I know, there is a lot of police in the area, but for nothing, they are no match for the techniques and speed with which these pickpockets operate.
I don't want to end on a negative note this post about the Colosseum, but it is good to know in advance what to expect otherwise I say good luck looking for holiday deals in Rome.
THE END
If you liked what you saw and read here please don't forget to give a LiKe, Follow, reBlog or a Comment, for all this I thank you, and until the next post I say goodbye.

Rome, the place where history comes to live through imagination! It is such a beautiful city
these two photos of the Colosseum made me want to return to Rome. Just think, I went inside it as a child on a school trip😜
Wow, what a great experience to have seen the Colosseum many years ago and to see (in pictures) that after years it is still there, just as great.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Is this the line you mentioned above? Wow!
I'm sorry you didnt visit the inside but maybe you'll do one day if it happens to go again.
The building looks massive though! A lot of history all through those walls.
Yes, this was one of the queues to stand in if you planned a visit here.
There should always be a next time, hehe.
I was really impressed by this tourist attraction, but still I think I made a good choice not to visit it, there were a lot of tourists and you couldn't actually enjoy a history lesson in the open air.
Have a wonderful weekend!
I wonder if they keep their schedule with the online tickets. 🤔 thats a good option of going again
What row was there, I don't know if the reservation time was taken into account.
There is always another time :)
I see.
