Budapest, a vibrant city divided in two by the Danube River

When you are a little more advantaged than others, and here I refer to the fact that you live in the west of Romania, thanks to the very good location you can afford to plan a day or two of escape to neighboring countries, for this you do not have to plan a flight, hours lost in the airport but simply get in the car and go in the desired direction.

That's what we did, even though we visited Hungary many times and its capital Budapest, I really can't get enough of its architecture and especially of its gastronomy, these two are spectacular, I recommend if you have the opportunity to try them both and if you search my blogs you will find some interesting ones.

Where is Budapest located?

First of all I want to tell you that Budapest is the capital of Hungary, one of the most attractive cities in Europe, Budapest is crossed by the Danube and the river Tisa.

How did we get here?

Being in the west of Romania we automatically followed the highway that connects western Romania to Hungary, before leaving the country we stopped at a gas station where we bought the toll for Hungary, it is good to know that to drive on the highways in Hungary you have to pay a toll of 10 euros (but the toll is set according to what type of car you have, car, minibus, truck) and after three hours we arrived near the Hungarian capital.

In the central areas we encountered little traffic but to my surprise we found a parking space very quickly, being a weekend day we didn't have to pay for parking.

We left the car behind and started to climb some stairs to get to the very famous spots here, but surprise after a few dozen stairs climbed we were shown an amazing view over the city, we didn't think we would be lucky to see something like this, we could have taken some spectacular drone pictures, but we forgot at home, hehe.

What is Budapest famous for?

When we think of the capital of Hungary, first of all we think of the famous bridges over the Danube, here I can mention the Chain Bridge (Széchenyi Lánchíd), Elizabeth Bridge, Freedom Bridge, secondly we look at Buda Castle (a spectacular place), Fishermen's Bastion, Mathias Church, and last but not least the imposing building of the Hungarian Parliament, today I won't talk about each one individually because I did that in another post some time ago and I don't want to bore you, today I want to walk around Budapest and see the vibrant life on the streets and in the tourist places of the capital.

In Budapest you will find a lot of activities to do, but there is one that I must tell you about (because I go there quite often), namely the thermal baths, yes, Budapest and Hungary in general has a lot of thermal baths, which in turn are beneficial to the human body.

If I limit myself only to Budapest I can tell you that here we find some of the most beautiful thermal baths in Hungary, namely the Széchenyi baths and the thermal baths that we find inside a beautiful hotel, Gellért.

We took a leisurely walk on the paved streets, we observed the local life, we passed by many terraces actually built on the pavement (near these terraces you could smell the smell of food, I actually felt like fainting), we visited the place where you can take the funicular (this time we preferred to walk along the Danube bank) that connects Adam Clark Square and the Chain Bridge.

We even got to kilometre 0 in Budapest, then went to a place where the tunnels under Buda Castle were supposed to go, the Rock Hospital Museum, but when we asked how much the entrance ticket cost we changed our minds, it was too expensive (somewhere over 20euro/person) and we gave up.

A little disappointed by the inflated price for this museum we decided to spend some more time in the area of the Fishermen's Bastion and the Mathias church.

In conclusion Budapest is an impressive city, where no one is bored and there are activities for all tastes, by the way if you decide to visit this city at night it is fantastic.
