Why! Why! Why! Do our family or friends or people we are close with make us promise certain things that might not be easy for us to do? Why do they make us promise? Because to me, making a promise seems like a rope knotted to my neck which I can't break free from unless I do the needful. I believe I'm not alone in this, and I think we need an urgent protest to break free from this as I am currently in one situation right now and a rope is already tied to my neck, though not visible to the eyes but I can feel it, hehe.

What is the situation I am in? And why am I stressing about this too much, Well I'm here to express my mind and rant as much as I can as I believe it's utterly unfair. Stay with me as I unfold my knotted experience to y'all.

So, I have this friend who is now my roommate in school. I think I have told you about him before in my previous post but nevertheless, We became close in school and our vibe was so matching we decided to rent a hostel together.

Yesterday, he messaged me on Whatsapp and we talked a lot. Just when I was beginning to enjoy our chat, he sparked a new conversation telling me his birthday was tomorrow, not that I didn't know his birthday was tomorrow but I wasn't planning on doing anything grand than to wish him a happy birthday tomorrow. My problem now is not that he reminded me again of his birthday but he said am I getting prepared for his birthday. In my mind I was like ( Prepare for what, is it not your birthday, Me I did not prepare for anything oo).

In his words, as tomorrow is my birthday I don't need a lot of things. I just want you to promise that you will get me two corporate shirts, two corporate trousers, Two sneakers and two Sweatshirts. Ah, what the hell is going on? Me that was just beginning to get myself together financially, just because of your birthday you want me to break my bank and break my back, Lol. It's not that I don't value birthdays but I'm not that financially stable yet to buy all those things for him, worth about 50 thousand nails( about $60).

I was trying to explain to him about how I will not meet up with his expectations but he was not listening, he was telling me I should do the same to him when it's my birthday also but that's about months from now, and I don't like the idea of tying knots of promise on anybody's neck. Now he's made me promise him that I will buy him all he's said and I don't have plans of spending money or even have any money to spend,Lol.

Now tomorrow is his birthday and I'm particularly thinking I should unfriend him, haha. I cannot come and spend beyond my budget. Funnily he is a persistent one, so I don't know how I can evade the billing.

Now my neck is tied with a rope knot of promise and as the hours goes by and it gets closer to his birthday, I can feel the knot getting tighter and tighter around my neck as the minutes and hours go by. It feels like it might choke me to death or should I just run away? Hehe.

Y'all should advise me on what to do.
