My Not-So-Great Coffee Experience

I usually drink Nescafe coffee. The Nescafe three-in-one packs with the coffee, creamer, and sugar already mixed together are what I normally buy. This Nescafe coffee is very popular in my area. Not many people go to the mall to buy fancier coffee. The Nescafe coffee is easy to find and makes a quick, decent-tasting cup of coffee.

I live close to a small local shop that sells everyday things like drinks, bread, soap, and more. I go there a lot to pick up little items I need around the house. One day I went to buy my regular three-in-one Nescafe coffee packets.

When I got to the shop, the woman working there said to me, "I see you buy a lot of coffee here. Would you want to try a new kind I just got in? It is called Wakana Coffee and it tastes much better than your Nescafe coffee."

At first I was unsure about trying a new coffee. I am used to my Nescafe and like the taste. But the shop woman kept saying this new Wakana coffee was really good, better than what I normally drink. Finally she convinced me to give it a try. I figured I could just buy a couple packs first to try it.

So I bought two packs of the Wakana coffee. I took them home and made myself a cup right away. I was excited to taste this supposedly “amazing” new coffee. But oh was I disappointed! Right away I did not like the weak, funny taste. It did not taste like coffee to me at all.

I thought maybe the first cup just got made wrong. So I had my husband try one too. He did not like it either. He said it tasted really weak with almost no coffee flavor. I could not believe it when the shop woman said this Wakana coffee was better than Nescafe! It was not even close in my opinion.

I regretted even trying the new coffee. But at least I had only wasted money on two packs rather than buying a whole box. I stuck one pack in the back of the cabinet just in case. But I knew I would not buy any more of it. That Wakana coffee definitely is not for me!

The next time I went to the shop, the woman asked me if I liked the new coffee she had recommended. I politely told her no, my husband and I did not like it at all. I said it did not taste enough like coffee to me. She was surprised because she loves that kind. But everyone has different taste I guess. I have learned to just stick with what I know I like!

So now when I run out of my yummy Nescafe coffee, I go right back to buying my usual three-in-one packets. Why try something new when I already have my go-to coffee that I enjoy? The shop still sells that Wakana coffee for people who like that kind of thing. But you will only find the good old Nescafe three-in-one's in my kitchen cupboard.

If you like Nescafe, you might like the Douwe Egberts instant coffee. We get it from Costco (not sure if they are in Nigeria yet), which makes it a really good price, but other places have it too.

The flavour is very similar to Nescafe Gold Blend, but a little richer and more complex. Their filter coffee is good, as well 😀

I don't know this Douwe Egberts. Maybe when next I have time to visit a big mall I will check it out.

Thanks for letting me know this

It can be a big disappointment to try something new and find that it falls short, I'm sorry to hear that was the case here! At least now you know for the future ☕️

Yeah in the future I am not getting it but that doesn't stop me from exploring other option when I go to a big mall

It is disappointing to go through this, although there is an infinite variety of coffee, for all tastes, but our palate gets used to good flavors, It is better to continue with the usual

Wow, what a difficult situation to go back to the store and be asked what you thought. It's better to be frank. I would have been tempted to say, "I'm sorry, but that new coffee is misleadingly advertised. It's not what they say." hahaha...just kidding. True, it was better not to have used so much money for that disappointment. Regards @treasuree

I can imagine how disappointed you must have been. When I am used to a particular brand I hardly let any seller convince me to buy another brand. Most times they do so because they are out of stock and would still want you to patronise them not caring if you'd like it or not.

She was only trying to sell out her product hahaha, she's a good marketer 😆. But I think she genuinely thought it was better because it tasted much more sugary which is the opposite of Nescafe
