Setting Up A Market Stall Selling My Preloved Goods ~
Hi Everyone,
During uni days, I used to have a market store a few times a year when market days were organised. It was a fun way to sell stuff you love and also make some pocket money from it. Fast forward many years later, a friend told me she would have a market stall selling her second hand clothes and accessories in October and may need to find someone to go with her. I said I haven't sold any second hand clothes before and would love to so I could make more room for the new season. Normally I would donate some clothes each season, but I do have many clothes I have hardly worn that I don't want to donate yet.
Today was the day and I got there 10 minutes late but our friend had already found our designated table. There was a table and two chairs included with the space hire. We bought our own racks and we started just filling up our racks quickly before the doors open in 1 hour. Setting up took longer than expected, but we were ready in time. My friends had lots of clothes but I only had around 60% of my rack plus lots of bags, jeans and accessories. I made sure I dressed in something light and airy so I could be comfortable for the whole duration of the market.
The foot traffic was much less than expected and we weren't that thrilled with the result. Overall, we sold just under $300 of items which were nice and clearly covered the store hire but we were expecting more people. It was a 4 hour market, and by the 2nd hour, the crowd just died down which was disappointing. We spoke to other store holders and they felt the same. Maybe we may try another market next year, a more popular one like Glebe where I used to have a few days a year selling my handmade items.

Market stores really become an on the day success or failure depending on number of people arriving.
We have noticed small market places have become extremely quiet of late, perhaps money is not available as it was over two years ago.
