Kids Learning A Language While They Are Young ...

Hi Everyone,

My kids are young but old enough to take on some challenges. Recently they are back learning Japanese after school as guest teachers and parents are now allowed back to the school grounds after the COVID lockdown. These Japanese lessons are around 45 minutes each week and both my kids are in the same class. The teacher will teach them a variety of things including Japanese culture, origami, Japanese songs, and so on. I was surprised my thoughts bought some workbooks back the other day and inside had them attempting to write hiragana which is a form of Japanese characters. Although they aren't the best writing, I was very happy they attempted.

The teacher also put together a small workbook with different activities like finding words, introducing body parts in Japanese and other songs that have English to it so everyone can follow along in class. Although the work looks simple, the kids only do a small amount of it each lesson hoping they can remember a little over time. I remember learning Japanese in uni for 2 years but I changed subjects knowing I won't be able to cope with my final year so I kind of regretted I didn't finish it. I am though thinking of going back to learning Japanese again as I know the basics but anything further like writing stories or documents will be too hard. I already know some Kanji as it is very similar to Chinese characters so that area I am covered.

Hubby has been learning Japanese also this past year and it feels like he has passed me with his Japanese language skills. I do have confidence that if I pick it up again, I won't have too many issues and will catch up to him in no time.
