Food Sharing #303 - Yoshinoya @ Sapporo, Japan
Hi Everyone,
A trip to Japan will not be complete if you haven’t had a beef rice bowl. It’s considered a cheap quick meal but still fits a good diet. There are a few different brands which do great beef bowls but we chose Yoshinoya as there was one near our hotel in Sapporo. Yoshinoya is the second largest chain for beef bowl in Japan and has many branches outside of Japan. Due to the low price, high quality food, we constantly see new seasonal meals added to the menu in addition to the best selling beef bowls. Known for their low price, quick and tasty sets, you will see a beef bowl branch pretty much every in Japan.
With a large menu on offer when we visited, we still had an idea what we wanted to order. The best part is you can choose the size of the bowls you order so it is suitable for all ages no matter if you are hungry or not that day. You can have options to order a rice bowl itself, a set meal with soup and rice or even order more sides if you want to eat more. Visiting Japan during winter also means I can try their beef sukiyaki for just 767 yen (tax inclusive) for a full set! This includes the pot, rice, a side, and raw egg. Water and tea are complementary so no need to order extra drinks. Apart from beef bowls, the restaurant offers salad options, breakfast options, fish options, and the list goes on. Just keeping in mind that the prices for each thing you order is pretty cheap so you won’t feel like you are breaking the bank.
We ordered 2 beef bowls and a sukiyaki set for the family. The kids can share a bowl and that was plenty for them as we ordered a size larger so there is enough. Meals are served within a few minutes so there is virtually no waiting time. By the time you pour your water and get your chopsticks ready, your meal is already served. The taste never disappoints. No wonder these beef bowl restaurants are still growing and well loved by locals. All restaurants are open 24/7 so there is no need to worry about being hungry in Japan. Some branches still run a ticket system where you need to buy your food via the machine but many take your order from the table to make things easier. If you are ever in Japan, find a Yoshinoya branch and try a rice bowl!

Ahhh yoshinoya~ It's been a while since I've been to one because there's none near where I live. I didn't know they also had the sukiyaki bowl, that's really my favorite on the menu. Wish they will make it available all seasons.
