Ever Been Embarrassed?

It was a beautiful Saturday morning and the sky was so blue and beautiful that I had to go close to the window to stare at it. I woke up earlier than usual and just decided to have some alone time for myself. Wait sorry, did I mention time alone?I forgot that this doesn't happen in an African home because you must have a person, just one person to always disturb you and I guess this morning, that person just happens to be my dad.

He continuously shouted my name and I felt so angry that I started grumbling inside me. I went to listen to what he had to say only for him to be telling me he wanted to have pap and akara (bean cake) for breakfast. I was so annoyed. Like how could a person just wake up in the morning to start asking for that type of breakfast that will cause stress.

I immediately entered the kitchen as I didn't want to stall at all. Washing the beans for akara (bean cake) is so frustrating as you would have to remove all the back and I couldn't even use a blender cause there was no light. After washing, I started my journey to the house of the woman who would grind it for me.

On my way to grind the beans, that was how I started hearing

"Pretty girl!, Precious…I'm talking to you, wait now"

I quickly analyzed with my side eyes and saw that it was one of those street boys that were calling me. Important note about the guys on my street. They are jobless touts who if my mum catches you talking to any of them, you are gone. Village people can even hold a meeting for you if my mum catches you. She's dramatic like that. So with this important note in my head, I decided to raise my head up, continue walking, and pretend as if I did not hear anything. It wasn't even long before the guy started saying things like

"Omor, this girl you're proud ooo. I'm talking to you and you're just ignoring me. Is not like you're even that fine sef. I'm just trying to manage you and you're still raising shoulders"

Most times, I have to just hold myself from snapping back at them and insulting them because I cannot fight and I don't want someone to beat me. Like I just find it stupid that he started insulting me like, it's the audacity for me sha.

Anyways, I continued my journey, grinded the beans, made breakfast and just chilled. It was later in the afternoon I decided to go and cut my hair at the salon against Monday for school. I dressed up, carried my clipper and other necessary things that I needed.

I was going on my own to cut my hair when I saw the same guy from morning that insulted me. He was looking at me and I saw he wanted to say something cause it looked like he was battling with himself whether to talk or not and I guess he decided not to since he looked in another direction. I ignored him and continued my way to the salon. I was halfway there when another boy approached me and was like

"Aunty, your bra and pant is showing".

I immediately looked down and indeed my cloth was so transparent that my underwear was showing. I've never felt so embarrassed in my life than I did at that moment. Probably that was why the guy from earlier was staring at me. It was as if the ground should just open and I should enter but I knew better as this was not possible. I was stuck with having to decide whether to continue my journey to the salon as I was close or to turn back and go home.

I later decided to go back home because I didn't want to get stares at the salon and have to walk back all the way from the salon home again. That was like one of the most embarrassing moments of my entire life.
