[ESP/ENG] Presentando libro sobre personalidades de las Geociencias en Cuba

Estamos de fiesta y celebraciones, por un hecho que nos sigue consolidando, como una editorial de vanguardia, en la divulgación de los resultados científicos de las Geociencias, en Cuba.

En este caso, fue un reto largamente acariciado por nuestra editorial y que, por fin, logramos hacer realidad, al realizar un libro sobre las principales personalidades que se han destacado en el desarrollo de estas ciencias y nos han dejado sus conocimientos, para poder entender el desarrollo de nuestro planeta y de los principales acontecimientos que en él se han producido.

Es un texto homenaje, en el que encontrarás datos esenciales de la vida de paleontólogos, geólogos, malacólogos, petroleros, cartógrafos y demás especialistas de las Ciencias de la Tierra.

La sede del evento

En esta ocasión, la presentación de este material ocurrió en la Asociación Cubana de las Naciones Unidas, un lugar céntrico de la capital del país, que se ha convertido en una de nuestras casas, para realizar presentaciones de libros, talleres científicos, conferencias y conversatorios, con personalidades de las ciencias e investigadores que comparten nuestras mismas inquietudes por el conocimiento.

El libro y sus autoras

Lo que más admiro de esta obra es que la realizaron dos trabajadoras de mi dirección y que se ha convertido en un reto cumplido o en un sueño hecho realidad, porque no teníamos un texto que reuniera en un mismo ejemplar la obra sintetizada, de personalidades que entregaron su vida en función del desarrollo de estas Ciencias de la Tierra.

Una de las autoras es Dinorah de la Natividad Karell Arrechea, quien, es nuestra editora y la otra, Teresita Torres Sierra, una de nuestras bibliotecarias, por lo que el libro cobra mayor relevancia, al no ser investigadoras propiamente dichas.

Como bien expresé en la presentación, es un libro que siempre estará incompleto, porque hay muchos investigadores que deben incorporarse al material que, por distintas razones no están en él, pero, es un paso importante en el compromiso de plasmar en un texto a las principales personalidades de esta rama del saber.

En el libro encontrarás a los científicos más significativos de estas ciencias, muchos de los cuales fueron nuestros compañeros de trabajo o colaboradores cercanos en realización de algunos proyectos de colaboración.

Nombres tan ilustres como Jorge Brödermann Vignier, Antonio Calvache Dorado, Jesús Francisco de Albear y Fránquiz, Alejandro de Humboldt de Hollwede, Gustavo Fidel Furrazola Bermúdez o Antonio Núñez Jiménez serán encontrados en este texto.

Destino de los libros

Ya los libros se agotaron y descansan en casa de altos estudios como: Universidad Hermanos Saiz, de Pinar del Río, Universidad Politécnica de La Habana o Cujae, como también se le conoce, Universidad Antonio Núñez Jiménez de Moa y en numerosos centros de investigaciones de estas ciencias.

Otros libros

El momento fue propicio, para presentar dos libros más, uno de nuestro instituto, titulado la Cartografía Geológica en Cuba y el otro, del Centro de Investigaciones del Petróleo, titulado, 150 años de investigaciones del petróleo en Cuba.

Un comentario final

Uno de los privilegios que me ha dado la vida es trabajar en el Instituto de Geología y Paleontología porque me ha permitido contribuir al desarrollo de las Geociencias y ayudar a que se realicen obras como estas.

Otro elemento significativo es que nuestra editorial Centro Nacional de Información Geológica, única de su tipo en el país, ha realizado más de 100 libros, lo que constituye una valiosa contribución a divulgar el conocimiento geológico del país y al desarrollo socioeconómico del país.

De momento, el libro ha tenido una gran acogida y se han recibido sugerencias de personalidades que deben ser incluidas en una nueva edición del libro.

A necessary introduction

We are celebrating and celebrating a fact that continues to consolidate us as an avant-garde publishing house in the dissemination of the scientific results of the Geosciences in Cuba.

In this case, it was a challenge long cherished by our publishing house and that, at last, we managed to make it come true, by publishing a book about the main personalities that have stood out in the development of these sciences and have left us their knowledge, to be able to understand the development of our planet and the main events that have taken place in it.

It is a tribute text, in which you will find essential data on the lives of paleontologists, geologists, malacologists, petrologists, cartographers and other specialists in the Earth Sciences.

The venue of the event

On this occasion, the presentation of this material took place at the Cuban Association of the United Nations, a central place in the capital of the country, which has become one of our homes for book presentations, scientific workshops, lectures and discussions, with personalities of science and researchers who share our same concerns for knowledge.

The book and its authors

What I admire most about this book is that it was written by two workers of my direction and that it has become a challenge fulfilled or a dream come true, because we did not have a text that gathered in the same copy the synthesized work of personalities who gave their lives for the development of these Earth Sciences.

One of the authors is Dinorah de la Natividad Karell Arrechea, who is our editor, and the other, Teresita Torres Sierra, one of our librarians, which makes the book more relevant, since they are not researchers themselves.

As I said in the presentation, it is a book that will always be incomplete, because there are many researchers that should be incorporated to the material that, for different reasons are not in it, but, it is an important step in the commitment to capture in a text the main personalities of this branch of knowledge.

In the book you will find the most significant scientists of these sciences, many of whom were our colleagues or close collaborators in the realization of some collaborative projects.

Fate of the books

The books are already out of print and rest in houses of high studies such as: Hermanos Saiz University of Pinar del Río, Polytechnic University of Havana or Cujae, as it is also known, Antonio Núñez Jiménez University of Moa and in numerous research centers of these sciences.

The moment was propitious to present two other books, one of our institute, entitled Geological Cartography in Cuba and the other, of the Petroleum Research Center, entitled 150 years of petroleum research in Cuba.

A final comment

One of the privileges that life has given me is to work in the Institute of Geology and Paleontology because it has allowed me to contribute to the development of Geosciences and to help works such as these to be carried out.

Another significant element is that our publishing house Centro Nacional de Información Geológica, the only one of its kind in the country, has produced more than 100 books, which is a valuable contribution to disseminate the geological knowledge of the country and to the socioeconomic development of the country.
