[ESP/ENG] Final de la 65 Serie del Caribe. Análisis y valoraciones.

Ha culminado la edición 65 de la Serie del Caribe de Béisbol con la discusión del título de dos de los países con más calidad y tradición en este deporte, no sólo de la Confederación Profesional del área del Caribe, sino de todos los países que practican este deporte a escala internacional.

En el encuentro de hoy estos dos equipos representaban mucho más que a sus clubes porque los que estuvieron pendientes del encuentro estaban viendo un partido entre Venezuela y República Dominicana.

Más allá del resultado del juego y la victoria alcanzada por los Tigres del Licey de Repùblica Dominicana el autor no pretende hacer un análisis de este juego final, no es ese su objetivo. La intención es mostrar su visión de la serie, los elementos más relevantes, los negativos, avances, retrocesos y otros aspectos que contribuyan a tener una visión general de lo ocurrido en estos nueve días de béisbol caribeño.

Antesala

Varios elementos interesantes caracterizaban el panorama de la Serie del Caribe antes de su inicio. Dentro de los elementos más comentados estuvieron:

•La serie arribaba a su edición número 65 demostrando su longevidad y constancia.

•Por primera vez la Serie del Caribe tenía un evento con ocho equipos.

•Cuba volvía a la Serie del Caribe, pero en condición de invitado, al igual que Curazao.

•Varios aficionados se preguntaban si Colombia sería capaz de repetir el triunfo de 2022.

La etapa regular

Por primera vez en su historia la Serie del Caribe adoptó un cronograma en el que involucraban a 8 equipos. La forma de competencia tenía un todos contra todos en la fase regular en la que clasificaban 4, para la buscar al nuevo campeón del torneo.

Los dos primeros encuentros vaticinaron una batalla campal por estar entre los 4 que pasarían a semifinales y de ahí los ganadores irían a la discusión del título. En esta fase la mayoría de los encuentros fueron bien peleados y los favoritos pre competencia fueron sorprendidos en más de una ocasión por rivales de menor categoría. A pesar de lo anterior lograron clasificar para las semifinales los equipos de México, Venezuela, Colombia y República Dominicana.

Los cuatro equipos eliminados fueron Puerto Rico, Panamá, Curazao y Cuba. En favor de los tres primeros países hay que decir que hasta el último encuentro tenían posibilidades de clasificar lo que demuestra lo disputado que fue cada partido.

De esta fase el autor se queda con:

•El avance mostrado por Colombia que por segunda ocasión consecutiva logra estar en la discusión de las medallas.

•Lo reñido que fueron la mayoría de los partidos impidiendo saber de antemano todos los clasificados, pues solo México clasificó antes del sétimo juego de la Fase Regular.

•La solidez del juego de Venezuela, República Dominicana y México.

•El nivel organizativo de la serie

•La confraternización de los peloteros de la serie

Cuba y la Fase Regular.

No es objetivo hacer un análisis de la actuación del equipo cubano, pero sí referirme a los elementos que consideramos tuvo nuestra selección en esta fase:

•Fue el equipo con la peor cota ganadora del torneo, por lo se fue del evento con el último lugar de la tabla de posiciones.

•Los aspectos básicos del juego no tuvieron una actuación armónica que permitieran conjugarse, en aras de alcanzar una victoria. Al bateo inoportuno que no empujó la carrera a la hora necesaria se sumó un pitcheo muy noble e inexacto que no supo preservar carreras ganadoras y una defensa que falló en los momentos más importantes de los juegos.

•Faltó disciplina técnico táctica y los jugadores fallaron en jugadas claves, para alcanzar un objetivo determinante.

•Cuba no supo jugar el juego chiquito y juegos que pudo haber ganado lo perdieron por una carrera lo que de ganarse habrían significado su clasificación a la próxima etapa.

•Falto liderazgo dentro del equipo.

Todo lo anterior es el reflejo del béisbol que estamos jugando en nuestras series nacionales y ante situaciones similares actuamos como aquí, pero el resultado es a la inversa.

Otro elemento a destacar en esta fase fue la eliminación de otro histórico como Puerto Rico que no pudo hacerse justicia y a pesar de su última victoria no le alcanzó para clasificar.

Fase Semifinal.

Esta fase se enfrentaron Venezuela vs Colombia, mientras que la otra estuvo a cargo de República Dominicana vs México. Fueron dos juegos muy peleados en los que los felinos se impusieron en sus respectivos encuentros, pues tanto los Leones de Caracas, como los Tigres del Licey vencieron en sus juegos semifinales.

De esta fase me quedo con:

•Calidad de los encuentros.

•La fortaleza y buen momento por el que están pasando los Leones y los Tigres.

•Lo cara que vendieron sus derrotas los equipos de México y Colombia.

•Buen funcionamiento de los aspectos esenciales del juego

Discusión de la medalla de bronce.

La discusión del tercer lugar enfrentó a los perdedores de la semifinal. Tanto los Cañeros de Mochi de México, como los Vaqueros de Montería de Colombia se enfrentaron en un lindo y bien disputado encuentro en el que los pitcher fueron los grandes protagonistas al permitir una sola carrera en la victoria de los mexicanos que de esta manera se alzaron con las medallas de bronce.

Discusión de la medalla de oro.

Los protagonistas de la final buscaban, no sólo, ganar la medalla dorada, sino seguir ampliando su palmarés. De una parte, el equipo dominicano llegaba con diez títulos a cuesta y los leones venezolanos llegaba con dos.

Fue un partido de poder a poder en el que a los Tigres le salieron todas las cosas bien y los Leones no demostraron ser los reyes de la selva. El juego se desarrolló con una muy buena dinámica, pero Venezuela solo bateó tres hits, no anotaron, a la defensa cometió dos errores y sus lanzadores regalaban tres bases por bolas, dos de las cuales costaron carreras. De la otra parte, República Dominicana que tuvo en su pitcheo a los héroes del encuentro al permitir solo 3 hits y no permitir carreras, mientras la defensa jugaba de manera hermética.

De esta manera terminaba la 65 edición de la Serie del Caribe, con la victoria de los Tigres del Licey que alcanzaba su trofeo número 11.

Un jonrón final.

La 65 edición de la Serie del Caribe Gran Caracas 2023 ha sido un evento altamente competitivo y Venezuela cumplió en su condición de país anfitrión, con una adecuada organización y un respaldo de sus aficionados por el evento.
Es necesario que se mantenga un esquema competitivo, como el que se desarrolló en el que en la segunda ronda todos los equipos tenían el mismo resultado en victorias y derrotas, lo que garantizó la competitividad, entrega de los equipos y poner todo el talento y la inteligencia de los jugadores y equipos en función del objetivo.

Como en toda competición se pudo notar el avance de países como Colombia y retrocesos importantes de equipos como el de Cuba que más allá de no clasificar se notó el descenso que a nivel profesional tienen sus peloteros y las carencias técnicas de muchos de sus integrantes.

A pesar de lo anterior y según el dominicano José Joaquín Puello quien dirige la entidad del béisbol en el Caribe, esta fue una muy buena serie y en lo adelante se buscan mecanismos para perfeccionar la serie, para hacerla una de las más competitivas a nivel global.

Several interesting elements characterized the outlook of the Caribbean Series before it began. Among the most commented elements were:

• The Series reached its 65th edition, demonstrating its longevity and constancy.

• For the first time the Caribbean Series had an event with eight teams.

• Cuba returned to the Caribbean Series, but as a guest, as did Curacao.

• Several fans wondered if Colombia would be able to repeat the 2022 triumph.

The regular stage

For the first time in its history, the Caribbean Series adopted a schedule involving 8 teams. The form of competition was a round-robin regular phase in which 4 teams qualified for the search for the new champion of the tournament.

The first two matches predicted a pitched battle to be among the 4 teams that would advance to the semifinals and from there the winners would go to the title discussion. In this phase most of the matches were well fought and the pre-competition favorites were surprised on more than one occasion by lower category rivals.

Despite the above, the teams from Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia and the Dominican Republic managed to qualify for the semifinals.

The four eliminated teams were Puerto Rico, Panama, Curacao and Cuba. In favor of the first three countries, it must be said that until the last game they had a chance of qualifying, which shows how hard-fought each game was.

From this phase the author is left with:

• The progress shown by Colombia, which for the second consecutive time manages to be in the medal discussion.

• How close most of the games were, making it impossible to know in advance all the qualifiers, since only Mexico qualified before the seventh game of the Regular Phase.

• The solid play of Venezuela, Dominican Republic and Mexico.

• The organizational level of the series

• The fraternization of the players in the series.

Cuba and the Regular Phase.

It is not my objective to analyze the performance of the Cuban team, but I would like to refer to the elements that we consider our team had in this phase:

• It was the team with the worst winning score of the tournament, so it left the event with the last place in the standings.

• The basic aspects of the game did not have a harmonious performance that allowed them to combine in order to achieve a victory. To the inopportune batting that did not push the run at the necessary time was added a very noble and inaccurate pitching that did not know how to preserve winning runs and a defense that failed in the most important moments of the games.

• There was a lack of technical and tactical discipline and the players failed in key plays to achieve a decisive goal.

• Cuba did not know how to play the small game and games that could have been won were lost by one run, which if won would have meant their qualification to the next stage.

• There was a lack of leadership within the team.

All of the above is a reflection of the baseball we are playing in our national series and in similar situations we act as we do here, but the result is the other way around.

Another element to highlight in this phase was the elimination of another historic team like Puerto Rico that could not do itself justice and despite its last victory was not enough to qualify.

Semifinal Phase.

This phase pitted Venezuela vs Colombia, while the other was in charge of the Dominican Republic vs Mexico. These were two hard-fought games in which the felines won their respective matches, as both the Leones de Caracas and the Tigres del Licey won their semifinal games.
From this phase I will keep the following:

• The quality of the games.

• The strength and good momentum of the Leones and Tigres.

• How dearly the Mexican and Colombian teams sold their defeats.

• Good performance of the essential aspects of the game.

Discussion of the bronze medal.

The discussion of third place pitted the losers of the semifinals against each other. Both the Cañeros de Mochi of Mexico and the Vaqueros de Montería of Colombia faced each other in a beautiful and well disputed encounter in which the pitchers were the great protagonists by allowing only one run in the victory of the Mexicans, who thus won the bronze medals.

The 65th edition of the Gran Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series has been a highly competitive event and Venezuela complied in its condition of host country, with an adequate organization and support of its fans for the event.

It is necessary to maintain a competitive scheme, as the one that was developed in which in the second round all the teams had the same result in victories and defeats, which guaranteed the competitiveness, delivery of the teams and put all the talent and intelligence of the players and teams in function of the objective.

As in any competition, it was possible to notice the progress of countries such as Colombia and important setbacks of teams such as Cuba, which, beyond not qualifying, showed the decline of its players at the professional level and the technical deficiencies of many of its members.

In spite of the above and according to the Dominican José Joaquín Puello who directs the baseball entity in the Caribbean, this was a very good series and in the future mechanisms are being sought to perfect the series, to make it one of the most competitive at a global level.
