Many times things come into your life when you least expect them and yesterday's events corroborate this. It seems that many joys are arriving as we are approaching six decades of life and, like all pleasant things, they are welcome.

What happened this day was something I had been looking forward to for a long time, but, in all honesty, I had given it up as impossible. It may seem hard to believe for many who are not Cubans, but for those who live on this island will know that it is something not very easy to achieve.

Apparently everything was planned because who gave us such a gift was a friend that my wife and I have in common and what she did not know was that she was giving us the best gift for the Day of Love and Friendship.

In this publication the author will explain the experience lived, the charms known and the wonderful day we spent. I just want to apologize for the quality of the images because the technical limitations of the author in photography and the fact that they were taken in a moving bus prevented me from taking better samples, but, for my wife and me it is worth the adventure of love and beauty lived and that is the reason why I decided to leave you this wonderful day in the form of a publication.

My friend's invitation

When my phone rang on Saturday, February 10, I was far from imagining the surprise that awaited me. It so happened that this friend was inviting us to a lunch for the Day of Love and Friendship because we would not be together on February 14. We arranged to have lunch at a restaurant in Havana in front of the Capitol called Los Nardos, one of the most famous and emblematic restaurants in the Cuban capital.

Departure

The meeting point would be the Inglaterra hotel which is near the place of the lunch and the time would be 1:00 pm.

At 12:12 in the afternoon we left and after boarding a machine we arrived at the meeting place. We were surprised not to see my friends and when I called them they told me that they were in front of the Inglaterra hotel. When we looked up, my wife and I looked at each other because we could not believe our minds.

We quickly crossed the street and greeted each other. She told us that it was still early and she was inviting us to take a bus ride through the metropolitan part of Havana.

Wishful dream, gift and dream fulfilled

Without knowing it, my friend had just fulfilled a shared dream that my wife and I had always had since we came to live in the capital. We had always wanted to take this kind of tour in these buses, but the price of the ride made it almost exclusively for foreign tourists.

The walk through Havana

The tour started and ended at the Central Park, near the Inglaterra Hotel. We began to walk the streets of Havana and complete the itinerary that took approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes.

This trip made me feel like a foreigner in my homeland and come to the conclusion that I know very little about this place where I live.

For different reasons I cannot mention all the places we went through, but, I will appeal to my memory and with the help of my wife I will try to leave captured the places that made me spend one of the best days of recent times.

We left the Central Park, passed by the Inglaterra Hotel, walked along the Paseo del Prado and passed by the Malecón Avenue and contemplated this iconic place of Havana. As we walked along this place, the companion who was explaining the places told us about Maceo Park, Hermanos Amejeiras Hospital, Coppelia ice cream parlor, Tryp Habana Libre Hotel and the Hotel Nacional de Cuba.

Another thing we admired was the complex of hotels in this part of Havana such as the Triton, Comodoro, the Old Man and the Sea and the Melia Habana.

On our way back we arrived at our destination, Los Nardos restaurant, located in front of the National Capitol of Cuba. We arrived just in time to enjoy a very tasty lunch and a few beers and, in my wife's case, a piña colada.

With this trip my friend gave us the best gift for the Day of Love and Friendship.

We will be eternally grateful to her for her deference to us and for having fulfilled one of our most cherished dreams.
Perhaps some may think that this ride is a minor dream. I can assure you that it is not because it was given with much love.

Una introducción necesaria

Muchas veces las cosas llegan a tu vida cuando menos lo esperas y lo sucedido ayer así lo corrobora. Al parecer, muchas alegrías están llegando cuando nos estamos acercando a las seis décadas de vida y, como todas las cosas agradables bienvenidas sean.

Lo sucedido este día era algo que hacía tiempo estaba deseando, pero, en honor a la verdad ya había dado por imposible. Puede parecer difícil de creer para muchos que no sean cubanos, pero, para los que viven en esta isla sí sabrán que es algo no muy fácil de lograr.

Al parecer todo estaba planeado porque quien nos hizo tal regalo fue una amiga que mi esposa y yo tenemos en común y que lo que ella no sabía era que estaba al darnos el mejor regalo por el Día del Amor y la Amistad.

En esta publicación el autor explicará la experiencia vivida, los encantos conocidos y la maravilla de día que pasamos. Solamente pedirles disculpas por la calidad de las imágenes porque a las limitaciones técnicas del autor en la fotografía se une que estas fueron tomadas en un autobús en movimiento y, esto impidió tomar mejores muestras, pero, para mi esposa y para mí vale la pena la aventura de amor y belleza vividas y es la causa por la que decidí dejarles esta maravilla de jornada en forma de publicación.

La invitación de mi amiga

Cuando el sábado 10 de febrero sonó mi teléfono estaba lejos de imaginar la sorpresa que me esperaba. Sucede que esta amiga nos estaba invitando a un almuerzo por el Día del Amor y la Amistad porque el 14 de febrero no estaríamos juntos. Quedamos, para almorzar en un restaurante de la Habana que está frente al Capitolio llamado Los Nardos que, es de los más famosos y emblemáticos de la capital cubana.

La salida

El punto de encuentro sería el hotel Inglaterra que se encuentra cerca del lugar del almuerzo y la hora la 1 de la tarde.

A las 12 y 12 minutos de la tarde salimos de la casa y, después de abordar una máquina llegamos al lugar de encuentro. Nos extrañó no ver a mis amistades y al llamarlos me respondieron que estaban frente al hotel Inglaterra. Cuando levantamos la vista mi esposa y yo nos miramos porque, no podíamos creer lo que estábamos pensando.

Rápidamente cruzamos la calle y nos saludamos. Ella nos comentó que todavía era temprano y, nos invitaba a dar un paseo en autobús por la parte metropolitana de la Habana.

Sueño deseado, regalo y sueño cumplido

Sin saberlo, mi amiga acababa de cumplir un sueño compartido que siempre tuvimos mi esposa y yo, desde que vinimos a vivir a la capital. Siempre quisimos dar este tipo de Tour en estos autobuses, pero el precio del paseo lo hace casi que, exclusivo para los turistas extranjeros.

El paseo por la Habana

El paseo tiene destino y origen en el Parque Central, cerca del Hotel Inglaterra. Comenzamos a recorrer las calles de la Habana y cumplir el itinerario que tuvo un tiempo aproximado de 1 hora y 35 minutos.

Este viaje me hizo sentir como extranjero en mi tierra y llegar a la conclusión que conozco muy poco de este lugar donde vivo.

Por diferentes razones no puedo mencionar a todos los lugares por los que pasamos, pero, apelaré a mi memoria y con la ayuda de mi esposa trataré de dejar plasmados los lugares que me hicieron pasar uno de los mejores días de los últimos tiempos.

Salimos del Parque Central, pasamos por el Hotel Inglaterra, recorrimos el Paseo del Prado y pasamos por la Avenida del Malecón y contemplamos ese lugar icónico de la Habana. Paseando por ese lugar la compañera que iba haciendo la explicación de los lugares nos habló del Parque Maceo, Hospital Hermanos Amejeiras, la heladería Coppelia, Hotel Tryp Habana Libre y del Hotel Nacional de Cuba.

Siguiendo nuestro paseo transitamos por encima del puente del río Almendares, estuvimos en la Marina Hemingway, pasamos por el Acuario Nacional de Cuba y recogimos algunos turistas en la Plaza de la Revolución José Martí.

Otra de las cosas que admiramos fue el complejo de hoteles que hay en esta parte de la Habana como el Tritón, Comodoro, el Viejo y el Mar y el Meliá Habana.

De regreso llegamos a nuestro destino que era el restaurante Los Nardos, situado frente al Capitolio Nacional de Cuba. Llegamos justo a tiempo, para degustar un almuerzo muy sabroso y disfrutar de unas cervezas y, en el caso de mi esposa una piña colada.

Un comentario final

Con este viaje mi amiga nos hizo el mejor regalo por el Día del Amor y la Amistad.

Le agradeceremos eternamente esta deferencia que tuvo con nosotros y el que nos haya cumplido uno de nuestros sueños más apetecidos.
Quizás algunos piensen que este paseo es un sueño menor. Les puedo asegurar que no porque fue dado con mucho amor.
