A paradise of love, nature and delicious coffee

Today I bring you another of those experiences that I lived in Topes de Collantes and that constitutes one of my favorite writings because it is a place where I had the obligation to be several times a day. It must be the simplicity and beauty of the place, the good treatment of its workers, the cozy atmosphere or how tasty they make the coffee.

Perhaps it is the combination of all that, but, the truth is that in the Bar-Cafeteria Los Helechos you spend a pleasant moment.

In a survey this place came out next to the Casa del Café as the most visited and preferred by tourists. This was my second visit to this place, but, just like the first time I fell in love with the place. The place in question is close to the game room, the pool, a pizzeria and a place for random meat. It maintains an admirable cleanliness and the space with natural ventilation music is very cozy.

In this place work three colleagues who take turns on working days, so that the friction with them becomes familiar and the many times you visit the place makes necessarily manage to create bonds of friendship that, as we Cubans are, lasts a lifetime.

In addition, it is an area visited by tourists, although, in all honesty, they do little stay in the place because they go to the heritage area of Trinidad or live in excursions in direct contact with nature because this area uses this form of tourism as their favorite.

Activities carried out by my team in the place

The activities we did most here were tasting the tasty coffee they make and sharing a few beers or, in the case of my friends, a delicious Habana Club rum, a whiskey or another type of rum available in the place. In the case of my wife, I preferred to have a sangria, a Cuban Mojito or a Cuba Libre.

But, the first thing we always did was to have coffee. They always waited for us at three in the afternoon, before going to bathe in the afternoons and after lunch. In conversations with the workers of the place they would ask us why we consumed so much coffee and if we had visited the other facilities of the place that sell this type of beverage.

Another of the activities we carried out were discussions on different topics such as sports, music, nature, chocolate, rum stories and of course we could not miss talking about coffee. I remember that one of the conversations we had was about the types of rums and coffee that distinguish the whole world and we talked about Russian Vodka, Scottish rum, American Wiski or Mexican Tequila. Of course, the rum we talked most about was Cuban rum, especially Havana Club and its different types.

But, we also talked about the types of coffee in which I could mention the most and talk about Cubita, Serrano, La Llave, Bustelo, Indiana, Hola, Turquino, El Morro, Blue Montain, El Peñón, Mocca, Los Andes, Brasil, Arriero; among others. We also suggested the best rums to mix with coffee and the existing coffee liqueurs. One of the workers laughed at our conversation and said that we looked like novice baritas.

Another thing we did was to tell anecdotes about our couples and the thousand and one stories we have lived together. Araceli told how my wife's relationship with my wife and I, who was about to turn 26, began. Between one story and another I had to declaim more than one of the poems dedicated by me to my wife.

But there was one that was very special. We took advantage of the occasion to say goodbye to Aracelis Mosqueda Peña and Rafael Castillo Ramirez, two friends who are part of our family and this was their farewell trip because they are going to live in another country.

A final comment

We baptize the Bar Cafeteria Los Helechos as a paradise of love and life. Being in this place is an invitation to the happiness of life and family harmony. When I was asked my favorite place of this trip I hesitated to say only one place: I only know that my answer included two places and this was one of them.
