We entered the year 2023 less than 72 hours ago as of the time of this writing, yet it already seems like a very long time has passed. In fact, I am having trouble remembering what happened on my first day in 2023.

Okay, I should mention that I did mark my first day of 2023 at the church. I attended a cross-over service in one of the churches in my neighborhood.

Numerous things are connected to spirituality in Africa, particularly in my own country of Nigeria. We nearly always associate everything with a spiritual context, but I would argue that this habit and over-reliance on spirituality have detrimental effects on a state's welfare since it discourages people from acting appropriately toward physical issues. Do not misunderstand me. Never once did I imply that having a spiritual life is wrong or incorrect.

Returning to my account of the events of my first day of the year.

On the last day of the year, many individuals choose to attend church because they feel that crossing over to another year has significant spiritual implications. And many do these for them to get back in touch with God and pray for a prosperous new year.

Haha... As may be seen in the image below, I attended a cross-over service with a large number of other individuals. So when it was twelve o'clock A.M., I was in the church as people were wishing each other a happy new year.

Shortly after, I left the church: and went back home. I replied to some messages on my phone and started working on an article on Hive. Around 4:00 am, I decided to give in to my body's protests after surfing the internet until I became fatigued.

Sleep late...Wake up late

Around ten in the morning, when I woke up, the neighborhood was calm and the fireworks had ended. I had no friends or siblings nearby, and I was at home alone with my Dad, so I knew in my heart that it was going to be a dull day.

I got up and cooked breakfast while continuing to browse the internet and respond to messages from family and friends.

Sincerely, the first day of the new year was pretty dull and was basically much like any other day.

I saw on Whatsapp that some of my pals went on an outing to a restaurant or the beach, but I stayed home, hooked to my devices, pondering how to make this year one to remember.

I left several comments on some articles on Hive, and I'm pleased to discover that I'm among the top fifty active users on the Ecency list.

I don't believe I did anything noteworthy. Of course, I prepared dinner, ate it, and stayed up late as usual. My phone was actually in my hands when I went to sleep, and when I woke up, it was on the floor. I'm glad I had a screen protector because, without it, I would have had to start the new year by looking for money to fix my phone's screen.
