The Role of Government and Society in Shaping the Future of Education

(Edited)

Each day comes with its own responsibilities and tasks. Whether you go to work or stay at home, you will surely have something to do. Today was particularly stressful and demanding. I had to start working as early as 5:00 a.m. to prepare for the morning class I had at 7:00 a.m. I did some cleaning and finished around 6:30 a.m.

However, the students don't encourage us, as many of them are perpetual latecomers or truant. A significant number of students didn’t come to school today. It is frustrating to see that the students, who are supposed to take their education seriously and motivate the teachers to do more, are not even interested. Many of them prefer to absent themselves from classes. It is no longer news that the majority of them do not plan to further their studies. Instead, they prefer to learn a trade or vocation.

Does nothing else matter to them? Is secondary school the end of their academic pursuit? For many of them, it seems so. They don't value education in this part of the world. While the students have their flaws, the government also contributes to the problem by failing to provide an enabling environment for effective teaching and learning.

We are all guilty of this problem that has befallen us like a plague. Everyone has a role to play in the betterment of our nation. It is our duty and responsibility to contribute our quota to the development of this dear nation.

No nation in the world can replace ours. Therefore, it is our collective responsibility to make things work. We should not wait for people overseas to develop our nation for us.

When I finally got to class, I met only 30 students waiting for my arrival. As I started teaching, another 30 students joined the class. By then, it was already quarter to eight in the morning. I decided to forbid the latecomers from entering the classroom since there were only 15 minutes left for the lesson to end.

I had to report them to the principal so that she could take drastic steps to discourage such behaviour in the future.
