The Labour Market

A colleague at my place of work asked that I assist her with an assignment to write an essay on this topic. 'How prepared are you for the labor market as an undergraduate in university?'

This colleague of mine happens to work as a PTA teacher in my school. She is working in order to fend for herself and also to be able to pay her school fees. The stress was much for her. At first, I didn't want to help since I believe she ought to do her assignment by herself and not contract it out for someone else's. I'm of the opinion that she won't learn anything if I just help her with the assignment, but after much thought, I decided to help out considering how adamant she was. She is an undergraduate student at the Distance Learning Center of the University of Ibadan.

Even though I was busy, I couldn't refuse her request. Here’s the essay. If you find any mistakes or have suggestions, please let me know in the comment section.

It’s well known that getting a job in Nigeria can be very challenging. Many students graduate from colleges, polytechnics, and universities every year, and there are not enough jobs for everyone. Just having a certificate isn’t enough to secure a job, especially for distance learning students like me. If regular students with good grades struggle to find employment, I need to put in extra effort to succeed in the job market.

As a distance learning student, I need to work even harder to stay competitive. I can’t access the university library, so I go online for information and learn from others in my field. Working with others helps me prepare for the job market through teamwork and shared experiences.

Albert Einstein said, "The only source of knowledge is experience." This means getting experience in my field is essential. I’m trying to gain work experience related to my specialization before finishing my degree. This will give me an edge over those who start looking for work after graduation. Practical experience with modern technology, which isn’t always taught at university, will improve my chances of getting a good job.

Additionally, skill acquisition is crucial. Having a degree isn’t enough when many others have one too. I recently enrolled in a program to improve my verbal and written communication skills. This has helped me influence others and make important decisions at my current job. Analytical and problem-solving skills are also essential. At work, I’ve helped students improve their English for entrance exams by creating a supportive environment and promoting teamwork.

In conclusion, with the skills and experiences I’ve gained over the past few months, I feel confident that I have an advantage as a distance learning student from the University of Ibadan in the labor market.

The essay isn't long since I only want her to get a glimpse of how she can go about writing hers without much effort required.

I think that the person must be helped to such an extent that it does not harm their learning, the question is to what extent, because we are all different and have different circumstances.

greetings.

I certainly agree with you on this. There should be a limit to how far we can get to help someone particularly when it comes to assisting them with assignment
