From the Field to the Parade: Prepping for Interhouse Sports Day

As we draw closer to our interhouse sports day, preparations are in full swing, with significant progress being made. Today was particularly eventful, as teaching and learning took a back seat to allow students to participate in the preliminary activities leading up to the main event. The excitement was palpable as students were called out of their respective classes to engage in the heats and other preparations.

In previous posts, I mentioned some of the activities that had already taken place, such as football matches among the houses, with separate competitions for both boys and girls. Today, however, was the big day to determine the winner between the houses vying for first and second place. This decision was made to accommodate the numerous activities planned for the interhouse sports day itself. If the football matches were scheduled for the main day, there would not be enough time to focus on the field events, which are a major highlight of the event.

The match today was the final showdown between Green House and Pink House. It was an intense game, with both teams giving it their all in what felt like a tug-of-war on the football pitch. After a hard-fought battle, Green House emerged victorious, scoring the only goal of the match. The game ended 1–0 in favour of Green House, which meant that my house, Pink House, came in second place. Although we didn’t win, it was an exciting and memorable experience for everyone involved.

After the football match, the students resumed their preparations for the interhouse sports day with renewed energy. The matching parade was a significant focus of the day, with students diligently practising their formations and movements. It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm and teamwork as they marched in unison. Some students were seen dancing and playing around during breaks as their lively spirits filling the air with joy and laughter. It was a stark contrast to the typical classroom atmosphere, where such vibrancy is less common during lessons.

The anticipation for the interhouse sports day is building, especially as we expect the field and track events to take centre stage on the big day. Activities like sprints, relays, long jumps, and high jumps will undoubtedly steal the spotlight, showcasing the athletic prowess of the students. Also, the careful scheduling of the football matches today ensures that these events will receive the attention they deserve without the constraints of time.
