CAF Awards 2019 Final Shortlist: Those Who Made it Through

After the first phase of the voting which was done by the CAF Technical & Development Committee and a panel of media experts, the list of nominees for the 2019 CAF Awards have been streamlined in the various categories listed initially. These voting was done with an emphasis on the nominees’ performance in the year 2019.

The African footballer of the year (Men's category) nominees have been reduced to 10 players, of which Odion Ighalo is the only Nigerian player remaining on the list. He will be slugging it out with mine other players across the African continent. Here is the full list of players who made the final shortlist.

In the women category, two Nigerians were dropped, leaving Asisat Oshoala to slug it out with four other African women in the category.

Gabrielle Onguene (Cameroon / CSKA Moscow)
Tabitha Chawinga (Malawi / Jiangsu Suning)

The Youth Player of the year category final shortlist features five players, two of whom are Nigerian youngsters.

Achraf Hakimi (Morocco / Borussia Dortmund)
Krépin Diatta (Senegal / Club Brugge)
Moussa Djenepo (Mali / Southampton)
Samuel Chukwueze (Nigeria / Villarreal)
Victor Osimhen (Nigeria / Lille)

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr did not make the final shortlist of Men's Coach of the year award, which includes five African national team coaches. However, former Super Falcons coach Thomas Dennerby made the list for the Women's coach of the year award, alongside 4 other coaches.

Finally, both the Super Eagles and the Super Falcons made the shortlist of Men's team of the year and Women's team of the year awards respectively, consisting of five teams each.

The final phase of voting for the men’s and women’s African Player of the Year, as well as the male and female Coach of the Year, will be selected by Head Coaches/Technical Directors and Captains of senior national teams from CAF Member Associations, and the 28th edition of CAF’s annual football awards will hold on Tuesday, 7th January 2020, at Citadel Azure, Hurghada, Egypt.
