MY PERFORMING ARTS: A Monologue to Criticise Nepotism
You know, right, that one of the many methods that are good for my mental health is to talk to myself. Either with two PoVs or with your own point of view. Therefore, I'm very comfortable with monologue performance.
As a monologer, it's not easy to get into the character you're playing, especially because throughout the script and performance, you're the only person who will be acting out however many characters in a script. So, sometimes I will bring two characters, sometimes three or more.
Like the art performance I did recently. The mnologue I chose from the work of a great Indonesian artist, Agus Noor. Agus Nor in the world of performance is very famous, besides being good at making drama and theatre scripts, he is also a writer for books. Agus Noor is very thick with his critical writings on both social and political issues.
Like the script I chose titled NASIB SIAL SEORANG BADUT (The Bad Luck of a Clown).
In this script, Agus Noor wants to straighten out the confusion that occurs in social society about tolerance as a religious ummah. In addition, Agus Noor also strongly criticised the nepotism that has taken root in the leadership of the Indonesian state.
Initially, perhaps we Indonesians began to recognise nepotism in the era of the Soeharto regime which stepped down in 1998, however, the current period is repeating history. Corruption, collusion and nepotism seem to be commonplace in Indonesia's leadership. Democracy has been silenced.
I performed with the help of the text, this time I used the dramatique reading technique because it was not memorised.
For music, I was accompanied by my friends from Emperan Pamulang music whose members consisted of: Adang Albanie, Eno, and Taoo Hidayat. We're all friends, so we're self-taught and without rehearsal can keep up with what songs to include in my performance this time.
You know what's interesting?
After the stage was over, I was given direction and praise by one of the more senior theatre stage activists. In my opinion, criticism and feedback are very important for artists. With a note, this criticism and advice is constructive and allows us to improve what needs to be improved. For me, learning is a lifelong process that humans will undergo.
And according to my friends, my pengg pengg action was impressive even though I didn't practice much, maybe because the script was very strong, so I was excited. That's all about my art performance. Thank you for reading it.
All photos taken by my friend, Munandar. Thanks a lot, Bro
