LOVE LETTERS-ABOVE AND BEYOND
This pict from iPusnas legal app
It tells the story of Kyla Stroud, a Marine wife who has just given birth to her first child without her husband-Richard Stroud-because he is serving on the battlefield in Cairo. Shortly after her condition stabilized after giving birth, Kyla was told by her family that the camp where Richard was sheltering was bombed by terrorists and killed almost all the marines who were there, including Richard.
Although it was difficult to accept her husband's departure, Kyla continued to raise her only son, Aaron, well, until one day she met a dashing and handsome man with one eye closed like a pirate, in a mall. The man who would later replace her husband's position was named Trevor Rule or also known as Smooch while serving in marine camp. Trevor was Richard's friend at camp, and Kyla only found out when the two had become husband and wife.
Personality, Plot, and Language
For characterization, I will only focus on the two central characters: Kyla and Trevor.
- Kyla Stroud
Kyla Stroud is a young widow with one child who is described as so beautiful and charming, that just through the letters she sent to Richard at the marine camp, it can make Smooch or Trevor imagine if Kyla was his. However, what I found annoying was Kyla's stubbornness and selfishness. After two years of being widowed, and feeling in love with Trevor, she still feels that she only loves Richard - her husband - even though she also loves Richard very much. The naive Kyla still brings up memories of her ex-husband. This makes Kyla Stroud seem a bit hypocritical. However, on the positive side, Kyla is a hardworking person who is trying to be independent to live apart from her retired parents.
- Trevor Rule
Having a respected family background, does not necessarily make Trevor spoiled with his parents' money, his father who is a famous lawyer wants Trevor to continue his dreams and become a lawyer too. However, Trevor, after surviving the unfortunate incident at the Cairo camp, is now back on his feet and independent as a contractor according to his dreams. Trevor, as before, grows in love with Kyla, because of his persistence, he finally gets Kyla as his wife even under the shadow of guilt because she is the ex-wife of his best friend, Richard Stroud. However, because of his persistence and also because he did not run away from the fact that he was the cause of Richard's death in the camp, Trevor's figure is very cool, in my opinion.
As for the language used, of course like how other harlequin novels, a lot of vulgar language is used, however, Sadra Brown crafts it into something intimate, sexy, yet sweet.
Deficiencies
In terms of plot, actually, this Love Letter-Above and Beyond novel is quite satisfying and smooth, but I feel that the climax of the novel is really mediocre.
Advantages
Sandra Brown is a writer who is good at describing the visuals of her characters. Sometimes, I can imagine that Kyla is as beautiful as Lily Collin, hohoho. Of course that's just in my opinion. Also for describing situations and others, Sandra deserves two thumbs up. Reading her 300 pages really doesn't feel heavy.
Summary
This book is very light and flowing. I'm not exaggerating. If you are a fan of the Hq series, you can put this book on your list. Okay, thanks for reading my writing. See you!
