THE BEAUTY OF ULUWATU | Temple with the Beauty of the Beach
Hello Hive Friends!
This time I want to share the story of my journey when I went to Uluwatu Temple on the island of Bali. Still on the same day when I visited Nusa Dua, I moved towards Uluwatu Temple after Nusa Dua Beach. I rode a motorbike and traveled about 30-40 minutes to get there.
I walked around at around 2 in the afternoon and arrived there almost in the afternoon, so I didn't have too much time to explore it. But what is certain is that I focus on Uluwatu Temple and its steep but very beautiful cliffs.
Uluwatu Temple is known to be one of the oldest temples in Bali. This temple is also located on a steep cliff which is a spectacular backdrop for enjoying the sunset over the sea.
The tranquil Uluwatu Temple is perched against a spectacular natural backdrop. Built from black coral stone, the temple sits atop a 250-foot (76-meter) cliff overlooking the Java Sea. Uluwatu Temple is located at the southern tip of Bali, surrounded by nature which is more rugged and dry than other parts of Bali. Admire the dramatic views of the jagged headlands on one side of the cliffs and watch the sun set over the sea.
This temple, built in the 10th century, is one of the oldest in Bali. This temple is one of the Kayangan Jagat temples, which means, according to Hindu belief, it functions to protect Bali from evil spirits. This temple has a very important meaning: Dhang Hyang Dwijendra, a pilgrim who founded the Hindu-Dharma sect in the 15th century, spent his old age here. It is believed that he achieved "moksa" or union with god, while meditating in this place.
Below the cliffs, see surfers enjoying one of Bali's most famous surfing spots. If you're interested in joining in, grab your board and climb down the steps that lead to the small beach below. In the evening, enjoy a meal at one of the cliff-top stalls and watch the moon rise slowly over the sea.
Uluwatu Temple is located near the village of Pecatu, South Kuta, about 19 miles (30 kilometers) south of Denpasar. The easiest way to reach this temple is by car or motorbike, or hire a local driver.
Remember to dress modestly when visiting the temple complex. If not, rent a sarong at the entrance. Beware of the monkeys, they are good at taking visitors' belongings. I was surprised when I saw a group of very clever monkeys taking visitors' accessories and using them, and it looked funny.
I only walked around for a while because it was already afternoon, thinking about the way home made me rush and I didn't capture many moments in photos, but I always remember it in my memories.
When the sun was almost setting I decided to go back to the hotel. This trip was truly amazing.
