Wednesday Walk - Late Night Dinner & The Full Moon
Day 12 - Late Night Dinner & The Full Moon
A year ago, while still living in Budapest, but prepping the emigration to Spain, I was looking forward to seeing the full moon every single month and capture it from the beach. Boy, my expectations were way too high as the sky over here is more dusty than I've ever seen, often making the sky not clear enough to capture the full moon. During the summer months I managed to get one clear full moon captured but not from the beach, unfortunately. I was hoping for sunrises and sunsets from the beach and was expecting way too much of it. I never thought that the sky would be so dusty so many days of the year and I surely didn't think that I'd be stuck uphill for 9 months straight without being able to get to the beach easily. Thankfully, times have changed, we are now going to explore a lot and I will probably accidentally encounter a lot of opportunities to capture the moon.
A few days ago, we were going for a drive after I went for an X-ray of my knee. While I was inside waiting in a full waiting room, my boyfriend and daughter stayed outside in the car so the kid would not get too annoyed while waiting. It's hard for her to accept waiting times, especially when there's nothing to gain for her. Thankfully, the waiting was done in just 30 minutes (yay for private insurance!) and afterwards, I only needed to wait 15 minutes or so until they gave me the X-rays to show the doctor. Nothing digital here, nope, you carry around your X-rays and results yourself.
We decided to grab a bite somewhere in the same town and my boyfriend had the fabulous idea to go the first restaurant we visited while staying here our 3rd week last year. We ended up going there another time before the week was over as the food was really good and the owners were a couple and their mother who we thought were great hosts. I wasn't sure about the name of the restaurant as maps didn't show me the restaurant when I thought I remembered it so to get to the right area, I filled in another restaurant I remembered and we started driving. It was a good confirmation to us while driving in that area that that part is definitely not for us, what a dumpster area, gross. It also reminded me of the many cockroaches I saw walking at the boulevard during the long evening walks that week last year. I really hate seeing them because they are so big. I know some countries have giant sized ones, thankfully I'm not living there, haha.
We missed a few exits because maps was once again not that clear and we took a U-turn at some point to change the route ourselves as it felt we're getting further from the coast every minute. After we made that U-turn, I suddenly noticed the full moon in the sky. It was big and seemed very close to us. I tried capturing it while my boyfriend was driving but it was mission impossible, one blurry picture after the other.
We ended up finding the restaurant that was indeed named exactly what I remembered, but it was closed as can be. I'm hoping it's just seasonal closure as I'd like to return in a few months. We were now just a few minutes away from the beach boulevard so I asked my boyfriend to drive a bit further until I saw the full moon above the sea and asked him to wait so I could take a picture from the beach.
Imagine this in sharp! Haha, I tried to sit still but the light pollution from the lantern next to the trees made it impossible to capture both the moon and palm trees sharp. Such a shame it looked so neat in real life!
Even the best one out of the bunch is not that great, but at least it's clearly a full moon. I will be happy when I have a new phone to enjoy these shenanigans for a while. My phone works good but there's not much left of the camera that just to be the best one I ever had. Shame!
The other restaurant that I filled in was our back-up and maps also showed it would open at 8 PM, perfect. And with my full moon hunting, the restaurant was just 1 minute walk on the boulevard. It was windy and a bit chilly for us without a coat but we knew it would be a short walk only. And when we arrived, CLOSED! Gosh, it seems everything is indeed dead during the winter in this town. We were told so but when you find a restaurant open according to maps, you assume it's open. Seems they just left the opening hours as is ever since they left at the end of the season, only in Spain!
We found an updated mural as well, I got reminded that I yet have to share all the pictures of this building's murals from last year, haha. But I will not refrain from sharing this one with you as I think it's quite the piece of art. I see it's signed by the artist "sevi2face" who has an Instagram account if you're curious about his other works. As soon as I shared the rest of the pictures I took from his work last year, I will send him the Hive link to check out Hive and maybe onboard another artist to Hive.
We went back into the car and discussing where we'd sit and eat now that these two options were closed. We decided to drive back to our home town and maybe grab a bite at the first area we stayed at upon arrival to Spain. By the time we arrived there, we noticed even there most were closed. Thankfully our back then favorite place to have a tapa was opened. It looked very different though, it definitely had an upgrade inside. We went inside to sit there and hoped for something to eat for all of us as it was already 8.30 by then and past our daughter's bed time, lol. That's what you get when finally getting some wheels.
Literally the only thing on the menu that I dared to order was "secreto iberico" which you can see on the picture above. We both ordered this and were amazed by how good it was. The dish was 10 euros and didn't have any sides or anything so I admit I was still a bit hungry and ate my last bowl of coconut soup at home, lol. Our daughter had a bread with chicken on it, which was nothing special but thankfully, at least she ate something too. I truly wonder if they will reintroduce the summer tapas in a few months because it was a nice place to sit, not expensive and our daughter also enjoyed their chicken and curry tapas. But we'll see when we return in the future.
That was our Wednesday evening walk and my entry for the initiative started by @tattoodjay. Thanks for stopping by!
This blog is part of the 30 days 30 stories challenge I started after successfully publishing 30 pictures and 30 stories the month before. I changed it up a bit as I wanted to be able to include regular blogs as well as pictures this round.
The idea is simple: publish one post a day during 30 days. You are more than welcome to join the challenge.

Haha... After all attempt, I would say you need to give your phone camera and your photography skill more credit. You finally got a fairly decent picture of the full moon. Haha. It looks fascinating.
That meal looks sumptuous. It took longer than a while to finally find an open restaurant, but the goodnews is that you found one. Haha. Better later than never especially when hunger is hitting hard.
Oh well, thank you for that! I can get some decent pictures with this camera but usually evening and night pictures aren't the ones that stand out. I see that the pic is decent if not zoomed in though, but I hope next month it will be even better.
That meat was SOOO good, I swear it was delish! I had to keep myself from ordering a second plate as it was just that, only that meat and nothing else. But it was also late so we paid and left after eating one. But we will come back :)
Thanks for stopping by!
Haha I would be bored waiting too if I were her age. Although I miss those times when we have a lot of energy and just spend it on playing instead of doing great things 🤣 I wish I can have the same level of energy as an adult.
That sucks not having restaurants open! Not even fastfood chains nearby?
It is boring, I know haha. I was the same growing up as an only child and always being dragged with my mother and grandparents as she tagged along with them. So tiring for an only child..
Back then we didn't have gadgets that we have now, lol. My plea is it was worse for me as a child :) lol
In our town the restaurants are mostly open but the one that's more touristic is quite dead so we learned. I bet soon they will open again as tourists will start appearing around the Easter holidays I guess.. And yes of course fast food stuff is always open but we weren't looking for that.. too expensive and we always regret it. We do it sometimes, don't get me wrong, but now we were hunting for a nice place to sit and enjoy a good meal instead.
Lol yeah I can't imagine waiting without anything to play with.
Ah that makes sense. I thought even fast foods were closed haha but I agree sometimes they can be expensive considering the quality of food.
That food looks so good has my stomach rumbling lOL
the Mural looks so cool
as for the moon taking a photo of the moon is really a challenge and you stuck to it and got a great shot of it
Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks
Haha, sorry about that!
It is a challenge with the moon, the phone camera never really gets it clear as I want it but it will do to share.. But if you zoom in, it's not that great.. maybe next month :)
I can imagine, I'm trying to built in a few more routines on Hive with communities such as aiming for a Wednesday Walk every week. So I'm hoping to enjoy these walks around the world as well as see you next week!
Have a great day!
Ohh I was not complaining :) so no need to say sorry 👍🙂👍
No worries :) I didn't take it as complaining :)
