The Christmas Gift Dilemma

Tradition

As per good old tradition, every year we face the same question "What to give each other for Christmas?". I swear sometimes it would be good if Santa exists so he can make the decision for us! I personally always manage to make everyone happy by the collection of gifts I gathered for the kid and boyfriend but the other way around, my boyfriend never knows what to buy and sometimes leaves it to me to get myself something. I honestly don't mind because this year he told me he almost bought me a perfume and another thing he thinks I need but the truth is, I'd be a bit disappointed if he'd bought me those.

For one, I swear to the same perfume and as long as this bottle is not empty, I don't see the point at spending money on another one (which I probably wouldn't like, lol). I don't want to sound ungrateful but I just don't like to spend money on things I wouldn't have bought myself either, if that makes sense. Heck, I'd even prefer him writing me a simple card over buying a perfume I don't really need now.

So to avoid him buying things I don't really want or need, he asked me to give him 5 options of gifts I'd like. This is an issue! I swear whenever I need or want something, I normally just buy it because I'm not one to spend money on things I can't afford anymore, I hate that, so if there's money I buy it, if not, I wait. Therefore I don't have a Wishlist ready to hand over now either, haha.

The little one's Wish list

While I don't have one, our daughter pointed out that she had a few ideas for the bedroom to decorate it and I thought hey, that's a marvellous idea to hunt for some things to flourish up the boring walls! A kid to my heart <3 who tells me to find some gifts for her bedroom, bless her!

There you go!

After browsing (read: wasting time) for an hour on stuff I don't really want or need, or are just not that great in the end, I saw something useful and affordable too. A boxing pad to stick to the wall so my boyfriend won't have to play boxing bag (he hates it as I punch too hard). I have these gloves he can hold up but the truth is, whenever I ask him, he refuses and postpones while I just want to throw some punches when I feel like it and pick up my old hobby of boxing long time ago. Now that I'm focussed more on my health this would be an ideal gift as it's useful and I like it at the same time. The cherry on top is that he will not be bothered with my question to be punching bag every day either.

Flea markets

Today we went to two flea markets and I had this idea to give our daughter a jewellery box because she has quite a few small items she can't store anywhere decent. Now that she has her own room there's space for stuff like this. I saw one online but the seller didn't want to ship it so I was considering to get it in person this week but only if we had another purpose to drive there. Then we arrived at the second flea market today and there it was, the exact same jewellery music box but in white instead of the black version I initially wanted to buy. It was the same price, thanks universe for saving me a drive to the city next week. She didn't even really notice and think about why we bought it, she probably already forgot about it as well.

A little while later we saw a doll which she likes from watching the tv show. I think these dolls are a bit too expensive normally so when I noticed one on the flea market I asked the price of the doll and the camper that was stalled out behind the doll. The seller said 15 euros for the whole set, 10 euros for the doll alone. A no brainer because the set also included another doll, we take home the whole set but it's for Christmas I said. She's been way too spoiled with toys and I don't feel like giving toys to her 2 weeks before Christmas honestly as the month is already expensive as is.

At the first market there was an old man who had a box which was perfect for my gift idea for my boyfriend. The little one and I have been cooking an idea for that and the only thing I needed to buy for it was a box. I liked the box and it was just 5 euros. I agreed without lowering the price because it was clear this man didn't have much and surely didn't have much to sell of value either. The friendly guy called us back to give our daughter a little teddy bear too.

I think now I'm set and can start packing things as well as write some letters to go with the gifts. A relief that I don't have to think about what to buy anymore because honestly, toys these days are priced so high, and often not worth the price that I really don't mind going second handed for the little one. Thankfully, she's always very grateful, even if she gets new clothes.

Mission accomplished, two weeks before Christmas, which is great!

Great job getting your Christmas shopping done early! I need to buy a gift card and wrap about 8 more gifts for others, and then I'm done.

My wife and I chose not to give each other gifts since we're looking to replace our home theater system, which is on its way out. It's hard when we usually just buy what we want or need, because all that's left is expensive things neither of us really want to spend money on. 😆

Oh the wrapping is something I yet have to do. Thanks for the reminder that I need to by wrapping paper this week, lol. Although I normally only write one poem for the little one, this time I plan on writing a few more for fun as we also don't put the Christmas tree up this year but just decorate the home with Christmas deco only.

Haha sounds familiar with the gifts, I often think the same "we still need to replace this or that and it's already so expansive" but now that the little one knows we are Santa, I think it's more fun that everyone has gifts, doesn't have to be special or expensive though. I already thought about a few simple but fun gifts we can make ourselves.
