Mojo's Life - Changing Teeth & In Heat!

Mojo in heat - November 13 2022.jpg

A lot has happened

Now it's not that I didn't have anything to share, it's more that I didn't pick Mojo as a topic for my daily blog until today! As you may remember, we don't know how old Mojo is precisely simply because we rescued her from the street. This is why we weren't sure when to make the appointment for her at the vet to spray her. Last month was also an expensive one for us thanks to tax payments as well as a fat bill for my boyfriend and daughter's residence cards. I was actually hoping to skip the appointment for Mojo another month, to spread the costs a bit.

Tooth Gift!

I should have taken a picture of this when it happened, but I was in awe, lol. About 1,5 weeks ago, I was sitting on the couch and suddenly Mojo runs towards me and I thought she brought me something to throw for her as she often does with pistachio nuts (yes, she plays fetch!). But when I picked it up, it was a tooth! She literally brought it to me and laid it next to my leg for me to see, pretty cute. I read that they often swallow the tooth and to be honest, I never found a baby tooth from my cats before either.

Another one!

My boyfriend cleaned it and it first looked as if the tooth was broken on the top I was a bit worried about her having toothaches. And then a few days later, another one fell out. That was even weirder! I was playing with her with a purple stick with a feather on the end. She was biting it and biting some more and then I saw something sticking to the stick (for real!). I wanted to take it off and to my surprise, this was another tooth. It looked similar only this one was defo a tooth with some issues. It was smelly too. We cleaned it and kept it as we did with our daughter's teeth lol.

Checking the teeth

After some practicing to find out what the best approach is to check her teeth and it seems that when she's sleeping, I can gently lift her lip and check her teeth. I don't see anything weird thankfully, so at this point, I'm not worried anymore.

The internet said she's probably around 5-6 months

Looking at the tooth changes, she should be around 5-6 months from what we could find, but more importantly, not long after this, she could go into heat. Shit! Now I needed to act and make an appointment quickly, no more waiting until next month. Too bad, the vet can't help her before the last day of the month, sigh. I was bummed but what to do but wait it out.

In heat?

And then the very next day, missy went into heat, clearly. My gosh, I really forgot (probably suppressed the memories, haha) how bad it is to have a cat in heat. The sound they produce oh man. So now we're going to have to wait about 2,5 more weeks until she can be helped. Shit, great timing! There is some hope that it doesn't last until that time, as I read sometimes they are in heat for about a week and then it goes away for a bit and comes back a few times in rounds until fertilized (which is not going to happen, we don't want that for her). I do remember that our cat in Holland had this behavior 3 weeks straight without really any pause so let's hope this goes a bit smoother. Not only for us but mainly for her because I can see how frustrated she is.

Windows

I have to be so careful now because every time when I open the bedroom door (where I have my office as well), she's so fast and already in front of the door while I have the window open there most of the day because it's just a tiny window and big room. It takes some time before it's nice and cool there.

It's also exhausting as you can see

She sleeps a lot when she's not extremely noisy and meowing. And when she's awake, distracting her by playing fetch is a great way to keep her focus on something else. She's very affectionate at the moment, so we hope it also means a bit more bonding time even though this period sucks for all of us. Thankfully, we know this will be only one round, and no more of this after she's been to the vet.

Just X more days :) Thanks for reading and have a great week ahead! PS any tips to calm the cat a bit more naturally, please drop a comment, it's appreciated ;)

Awwww, poor baby. I hope it is over quickly and that the vet appointment goes well when it happens. Such a beautiful kitty though!
