I'm Loving Our New Treadmill!

Week without dad

I was a bit scared about how the week would go, especially looking back at previous weeks that my boyfriend had to go to Holland for business, BUT the little one is much better to handle now that she's a bit older and I can only say that we had a good "week" together.

It was actually because of some "painful moments" that reminded me of the hospital scare that I realized he's not around if something happens but for the rest, time flew by much faster than I ever could imagine. The most boring parts were the evenings when we usually sit down together to chat about the day and watch a tv show or movie. That's actually a bit boring without him, lol.

On Thursday, I was happy to realize that a day from now, we'd have dinner together. I just hoped all the travel stuff would go smooth because he had a layover with very little time to get to the second plane and from the first trip, it was clear there was quite some distance to walk to get to the gate. All went well!

Ugh, what a huge thorn in the eye

Agreement

As he arrived home before he normally ends hie workday, we had an agreement that I'd make sure that dinner was ready and then he'd put together the brand new treadmill we ordered to make sure we get healthier. A very good deal for me, if I may say so myself, lol.

We both lived up to the deal and before the little on needed to go to bed, the treadmill was ready for usage. Without doing any proper searching about a plan, we all tried it out and see what felt comfortable. After all, we all go from no cardio to having our own treadmill. I'm in favour of just first experiencing what feels good and effective and tweak it as I go.

First trial

Now I have to admit that yesterday I skipped walking in the afternoon as I had lots to do inside and stayed in my comfy outfit all day. I figured I'd catch up in the evening with the treadmill. Well, after some testing with the speed as well as the slope, it took about 15 minutes before I was done and called it a day.

Another day

Now you could tell me hey you should run for it to be effective but that's not going to work for me (right now) because I still have bad knees and I really have to be careful not making one wrong step and then being wrecked for months with every step I take. I really wish to avoid that so a solid pace, much faster than I'd walk outside and without any room for breaking my neck on loose stones etc is where I'm going to find my groove for a while. Never say never btw, I can see how eventually my knees are trained by the daily cardio and that I feel comfortable trying to take a sprint. But let's take it one day at a time.

Moving the treadmill at night

At first, I thought I made enough space for the treadmill the way we placed it in the room, only to realize in the middle of the night, it didn't work for me. The treadmill has this extra massage belt and weights on the front, it was impossible to use those the way it faced the window and that massage belt will be very great for my lower back and hips at least.

Who gets to go first?

My little one really wanted to try the treadmill because she was disappointed that she had to go to bed yesterday.. We decided to let her try it first and explained she should not suddenly stop walking and make sure to be careful while drinking water etc, we pinned the safety pin on her shirt and off she went. She did well!

My turn!

Then it was time for me to do my expected 15 minutes of walking on a solid pace.. I brought some water and totally forgot to get a towel plus my phone was about to die, not prepared, nope! Thankfully, while walking I managed to call in help for a cable to charge the phone as well as bring me a small towel for my hands.

My goal was 15 minutes as I mentioned above, but then I found quite a comfortable speed at 4,4 kmh and felt I could do a bit longer and then I thought, doesn't fat burning start after 30 minutes? I can do 30 minutes! I put on Netflix to watch a tv show so I wasn't too focussed on the time but rather walking and not thinking too much. It really helped!

Eventually, I thought well, I may be able to make 45 minutes. At some point I started counting: just 10 minutes left to an hour, you already did 5x 10 minutes, the last round will be easy! 5 minutes left, you already did.. well you get it.

One hour baby!

I made 60 minutes and I felt so good and proud of myself for pushing myself.. I needed a bit of time to get used to normal walking again after, lol.. After 15 minutes or so I decided to tread myself to the massage belt and that felt SOOO GOOD! Would recommend it to anyone..

I felt so good afterwards that later in the afternoon, I did another 25 minutes but this time I pulled the treadmill up slightly for a bit more resistance. As I know that I can badly mess up my shitty knees, I was not going to do this for an hour again, as I need to build this up. I ended up doing a warming up of 5 minutes on 3kmh and 15 minutes at 5kmh, then I closed the cooldown at 3kmh. No idea if this is how it should be done but I'm just going to try out some stuff and see what I can handle and what works.

This was a great way to start the weekend, now it's time to get ready as we're having a baby sitter in a bit and going out for dinner together. The food there is GOOD!

Have a good weekend!
