The Power of Engagement: Building the Social Layer of Web3 on Hive
Hi there everyone, it's TheRingMaster here again and I think about two weeks ago I made a blog about the value of engagement on social media platforms but yesterday something very interesting happened which made me rethink how important engagement is on a whole different level.
I was on my usual engagement on Hive making new friends when I stumbled on one blog written by @taskmaster4450 about Social layer being the greatest value of cryptocurrency. I read that blog and got very inspired and shared a comment to him.
His response to the comment is what led to today's blog and of course he had given me the go ahead to spread the word to everyone else on the chain.
His word really resonated with me since I'm a sucker for engagement and I absolutely understand the value of engaging on any social platform at all.
This was his comment - “We need to do more than put our money into it. What I think most miss is that we CREATE Web 3.0. It is up to us.”
Motivated by this profound statement he made, I decided to write this blog and let people know exactly how important they are as individuals in shaping Web3 especially within Hive Blockchain.
Of course I told him that I'll be making a blog based on that comment and he was excited by it and encouraged me to spread it.
The Social Layer at Its Core
Web3 provides for all of us a decentralized web that guarantees the users full control over their data and interactions. To be honest I'm starting to think about Web3 as more than just the next internet but the solution to the control problems we face in society. Yesterday I wrote a lot about why the government hates Cryptocurrency in the blog below and it's mainly because they'll lose control over the people and also lose track of income taxes.
You can read that blog in the link below guys

I believe Web3 is mainly driven by the social layer which consists of peer-to-peer communication channels and user-generated contents. Differently from the centralized social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to name a few, the social layer of Web3 offers power to the users promoting transparency, trustworthiness and true community-based dialogue as well as interaction.
So if Web 3 is driven by social layer and that primarily consists of user generated content, that stands to reason that our individual engagement, quality blogs, comments and overalls interactions on the platform is the mean key to the success of the Blockchain.
It's no doubt we need the investors, that is how the project got funded to be established in the first place, but let's not forget that what attracts investors is the potential of the platform which is all about how big the platform can get. YouTube and Facebook has a lot of investors investing because they think that it will get bigger and the value will grow. Getting bigger means more people will join and engagement on the platform will rise.
This means that the best way to ensure the success of Hive is not just putting money into the chain but actually contributing user generated content. This to me is the core of what will make Hive thrive.
Beyond Investment
The comment of Taskmaster pointed out a very important fact to me; having financial investments only will not be enough. No doubt it is capital that development and infrastructure requires, however, successful Web3 ecosystems are driven by active participation of users. It is the unity of our community members in terms of commitment, creativity and involvement that will create a vibrant social layer.l which will lead to the success of The Hive Blockchain.
The Hive Blockchain I believe is one of the best-known examples of a decentralized platform that values user engagement and community building. We've got some great communities here like Ecency, Inleo, Vibes and Pinmapple to mention a few.
This means the ecosystem has been built very well to reward content creators, curators, and community members alike for their contributions. There's so many different niche based communities and even general communities.
However, I think we need to go beyond mere participation to harness Hive’s full potential.
We must literally be proactive in engaging with it. I completely understand that not everyone can be super active since we've got so much to do in the day but I'll encourage more people anyways. Personally I spend more time on Hive than anything else in my day at the moment and it reflects on my growth on the platform.
I'll only encourage more engagement for the good of the future of the platform and also so that Web 3 can win the not so silent war governments have with the intention to take control.
What Can We Do To Make It Successful?
I sat down and put together some steps I believe we can take to help make Hive a better social layer and a better Blockchain.
- Being there constantly
You can try your very best to be present in the community through publishing, commenting, voting on posts and others regularly because it becomes known that you are always there. Of course there may be days where you just couldn't because of other activities but I'll only encourage that you show up often. That's actually sometimes I see going on well. Some of the experienced veterans are super consistent, they barely miss a day to create and share content and interact.
- High Quality publications
Try as much to make your content of high quality, informative and entertaining. Well of course when I say quality I don't exactly mean 10,000 words, but nice blogs that brings some sort of value to people on the Blockchain. It can be about technical crypto based things or even about something as simple as hope your day went as long as it brings some sort of value, entertainment, advice, insights and others. In all this just be yourself is really what I would see as a quality post
The reason I would advice on High Quality posts is because High quality almost always attracts attention, initiates meaningful interactions that is very important for an active social layer.
- Help The Newbies:
This is one thing that helped me a lot to settle and know my way around the platform. I had a warm welcome and I got very comfortable in the communities. You can welcome and assist new users. I've even been encouraged by my mentor @melinda010100 to share some gifts with friends and help others which is the next thing I'm going to do after publishing this blog. A supportive environment encourages new members to stay and grow which is necessary for any ecosystem’s survival.
- Network and Collaborate
Engage other content creators and community members in producing collaborative projects like writing or art work together with them. Networking increases influence and creates a spirit of family among people. I'm literally always making friends and connecting with them, that connection produces great value for both parties involved.
- Promote Hive Outside
Last but certainly not the least we need to promote Hive outside Hive. I share the Hive Links on my WhatsApp so some friends ask."What Exactly Is that". It's no surprise there that they haven't even heard the word "Blockchain" before. A lot of people are not online tech savvy as you may think and probably haven't even heard anything about Web 3 before. We really need to advocate for Hive as a framework for all those who care about each other’s welfare. The larger our community becomes, the stronger we are in terms of diversity too.
I'm excited and look forward to the Hive Fest because I know it's one way to create attention for the platform. Even if I can't go there in person I can at least share the streaming links.
The Ripple Effect - From Engagement to Investment
Engagement involves more than just creating a lively community, it has literal economic value. Hive’s strong social layer can make the platform more visible and credible therefore drawing in more users and creators of content.
With its growth also comes potential for attracting investors who understand the importance of engaged user base. These same investors that buy Meta Stocks can also invest into Hive if they realize it's potential as a social media platform. Hence, our combined efforts in developing the social layer can affect directly on how much it develops and flourishes the whole Hive Blockchain.
So The Future is in Our Hands
To conclude my blog, decentralized engagement on Hive is what provides social layer within Web3 and that's the very core of this platform. As @taskmaster4450le said, we are the Web 3 creators. We have the power to develop, grow and extend this ecosystem and make it as big as the Web 3 giant social platforms. Through active involvement as well as generating quality content that receives support from its community, we would drive Hive success while becoming an example for other Web 3 platforms.
So guys let’s make a vibrant social layer on Hive that is active and lively. We can shape the future of Web3 together and this will show what decentralized communities are capable of.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read. Would love to get your feedback on the topic of social layer and engagement.
