Keeping Up With Hive - Short Videos

Short Videos are winning big in this era. Who knew TikTok will become a big deal. The developers could have easily said, Naaaa too many videos for viewers can make em bored or overwhelmed but they looked on the bright side, what if those numerous videos where a lot?

And that's how TikTok got so famous. I don't even believe the CEO and founders thought this idea would take over like it has.

I don't know how many of you remember the famous short video platform Vine founded by Dom Hofmann, Rus Yusupov, and Colin Kroll in June 2012. That was where short 6 seconds videos where becoming a thing for everyone until it went out of business. Before that time, it was acquired by Twitter for about 30 million dollars.

Well it's great the founders at least profited from the company before it went down. For me, I'm still wondering how after such a failed attempt by Twitter to make Vine a success, TikTok had the confidence to go forward with their idea.

Well I guess the timing was just right and I believe the most important aspect was the kind of videos their algorithms allowed to trend.

That reminds me, I've always wanted to find out if Hive has an algorithm for showing it's blogs based off of user interests or it's just a feed for who you're friends with or who's blog has the most money in Upvotes?

Also, which content should trend more, a blog with a higher reward or a content with more Upvote counts?

The reason I ask all of these questions is because since with Inleo Shorts and 3Speak gradually moving towards video content and hopefully prioritizing that over written blogs, where may need a good algorithms to show the right videos to the right person.

I don't think it should run with the same algorithm as blogs do otherwise the idea or value of short videos will be lost.

If you're scrolling through countless videos that are exciting, you'll keep scrolling and probably get addicted to engaging but if the videos are not interesting you'll probably turn off your phone after a couple of minutes.

Regardless I'm very happy to see such progress happening here on Hive and if properly executed, it would help make Hive an enjoyable community.

Let's be honest, not everyone likes to read all the time. Infact I used to write a lot in each blog and I decided to reduce my word count drastically and keep things "short" because I kept getting feedback about how cool but long the blog is.

Threads and short videos are going to create a whole knew exciting niche for people.

I think the best trick in motivating people to come up with more video shorts and threads or waves is to focus more of the reward there.
