Hello everyone!

Finally the third round of Hivechess has arrived, I have been a whole week playing chess non-stop because I wanted to try a project that ended up being a total farce, but it was necessary to play +40 blitz games daily to try to get profitability. Having discovered that it was not what I expected in time probably saved me many hours of time since I had to invest more than 3 hours playing chess non-stop daily, an absolute madness since I am used to play for mere entertainment and not by obligation XD.

Before I continue talking about the tournament, I would like to show you that I finally reached 1700 in blitz on chess.com. It may not sound like a big deal, but, at least personally, I would say that the level on chess.com is MUCH MUCH higher than the players on lichess in terms of elo, since a 1600-1700 on chess.com can easily be a +2100 elo on lichess. As a personal goal, I would really love to make it to 2000 elo on chess.com, but the level of play the players have at this point is quite strong and I have to keep improving to keep up with that pace.

And I'm also close to reaching 300 games in less than 90 days! I would love to have kept solving puzzles, but without premium it's quite a nightmare just solving 2-3 puzzles a day xd.

That said, let's get started with this round of the tournament:

My first game was against @rosmarly, I think it was the first time I faced this player and we had an even game for most of the middle game, but then started to make small mistakes that almost ended up costing me the game. There came a point in the game where I decided to play queen and knight against 2 rooks and 1 knight, sacrificing my 2 rooks but I was able to give a lot more play to my queen, which allowed me to checkmate Philidor at the end of the game. I must admit that this made me quite happy as it is my favorite mate, and having done it at the beginning of the tournament put me in a very good mood.

It was an incredible game from head to toe, and I could only win because of my opponent's mistakes. After all, that's also what chess is all about.

In my game against Samostically I never felt in real trouble, in fact, we had an extremely delicate position where I was absolutely sure that if I made a mistake it was going to cost me too much. After some analysis I let his queen get to h7+ and took my king to the center, confident that there wouldn't be so many threats that I would lose the game. The game continued like this and I was able to successfully defend against all the threats, I feel that entering h7 without so many resources can be a waste of time, and I am very happy to have found most of the right moves to defend myself (although after analyzing the game I noticed that there were much stronger moves that gave me a guaranteed victory).

I ended up winning this game because of the time pressure, since Samostically had decided to play with berserk mode, and this takes half of the time away from him and at the same time prevents him from having time due to clock increment.

In my third game I played against vjap and ended up winning by time. I think it was a pretty treacherous game since I had a pretty comfortable position and just for a mistake I ended up giving away much of my material, although as happened with Samostically, the time pressure cost vjap dearly and thanks to that I ended up winning the game. I'm not someone who uses berserk mode a lot, much less I'm playing slower lately, age is taking its toll on me D: (or did I just forget to play on autopilot?) idk.

Be that as it may, I had an amazing start to the tournament, but then the disasters started.

In my game against Tortyllan I lost due to lack of time. I don't know why inside me I thought it was a good idea to start using the berserk mode knowing that it was hard for me to think sometimes and the amount of time helped me a lot, but I still dared to do it and it cost me the game. Here there weren't many complications and it all boiled down to exchanging as many pieces as possible to get to an endgame of a few pieces and a rook, and despite having a passed pawn about to crown, my brain couldn't process so many moves in such a short time haha.

I guess this is where I started to get a bit demotivated for messing up the streak. After this game I played Rosmarly again, and won again... but the rest was history.

The next 3 games after Rosmarly were against Odnoobraz, Pavarotty and Vjap again. In each and every game I made beginner mistakes, like leaving a piece undefended or just getting into completely losing positions and in each of the games I decided to give up as there was nothing to do. I don't know why I am on this kind of losing streak, it seems that I simply got out of "the zone" and lost all the concentration I had been maintaining. This disappointed me greatly since this losing streak was what cost me to even be in the top 10 of the tournament.

My last game of the tournament was against Olu-jay, with whom I had an incredibly balanced game. Olu played really well and we got to a very delicate endgame where I had a passed pawn and another pawn against 3 of his pawns. Unfortunately he made a blunder and with only one pawn I was able to stop the advance of the other 3 pawns, that's how I came out of a totally lost position to win. After 1. g5 White was not totally lost and the game could have been a draw, but I guess the time pressure also played a trick on him and I managed to take advantage of this position.

And that would be all! I have mixed feelings trying to describe how I feel about this round, since I beat 2 players I couldn't imagine playing against and winning, but I guess this will help me a lot to break that psychological stigma. One way or another, I'm pretty happy to be able to participate in this tournament and I'm pretty excited for next Friday.

Por fin llegó la tercera ronda del Hivechess, he estado toda una semana jugando ajedrez sin parar debido a que quise probar un proyecto que terminó siendo una total farsa, pero era necesario jugar +40 partidas blitz diarias para intentar sacar rentabilidad. Haber descubierto que no era lo que esperaba a tiempo probablemente me ahorró muchísimas horas de tiempo puesto que debía invertir más de 3 horas seguidas jugando ajedrez sin parar diariamente, una absoluta locura ya que estoy acostumbrado a jugar por mero entretenimiento y no por obligación XD.

Antes de seguir hablando del torneo, me gustaría mostrarles que por fin llegué a los 1700 en blitz en chess.com. Tal vez no suene como la gran cosa, pero, al menos de forma personal, diría que el nivel en chess.com es MUCHÍSIMO mayor al de los jugadores en lichess respecto a términos de elo, puesto que un 1600-1700 en chess.com puede ser fácilmente un +2100 de elo en lichess. Como meta personal, realmente me encantaría lograr llegar a los 2000 de elo en chess.com, pero el nivel de juego que tienen los jugadores en este punto es bastante fuerte y tengo que seguir mejorando para llevar ese ritmo.

¡Y también estoy cerca de llegar a los 300 juegos en menos de 90 días! Me encantaría haber seguido resolviendo puzzles, pero sin premium es toda una pesadilla solo resolver 2-3 puzzles al día xd.

Dicho esto, empecemos con esta ronda del torneo:

Mi primera partida fue contra @rosmarly, creo que fue la primera vez que me enfrentaba contra este jugador y tuvimos una partida igualada gran parte del medio juego, pero luego comenzaron a salir los pequeños errores que casi terminan costándome la partida. Llegó un punto de la partida donde decidí jugar dama y caballo contra 2 torres y 1 caballo, sacrificando mis 2 torres pero pude darle muchísimo más juego a mi dama, lo que me permitió hacer un jaque mate Philidor al final de la partida. Debo admitir que esto me puso bastante feliz ya que es mi mate favorito, y haberlo hecho al comienzo del torneo me puso de muy buen humor.

Fue una increíble partida de pies a cabeza, y nada más pude ganar debido a los errores del rival. Después de todo, en eso también se basa el ajedrez.

En mi partida contra Samostically nunca me sentí en verdaderos problemas, de hecho, tuvimos una posición extremadamente delicada donde estaba totalmente seguro de que si cometía un error iba a costarme demasiado caro. Después de analizar un poco dejé que su dama llegara hasta h7+ y llevé mi rey al centro, confiando en que no habrían tantas amenazas que me hicieran perder la partida. La partida continuó así y pude defenderme con éxito de todas las amenazas, siento que entrar en h7 sin tantos recursos puede llegar a ser una pérdida de tiempo, y me alegra muchísimo haber encontrado la mayoría de jugadas correctas para defenderme (aunque luego de analizar la partida noté que habían jugadas muchísimo más fuertes que me daban una victoria garantizada).

Terminé ganando esta partida por la presión del tiempo, puesto que Samostically había decidido jugar con el modo berserk, y esto le quita la mitad del tiempo y al mismo tiempo impide que tenga tiempo por incremento del reloj.

En mi tercera partida jugué contra vjap y terminé ganando por tiempo. Creo que fue una partida bastante traicionera puesto que tenía una posición bastante cómoda y nada más por un error terminé regalando gran parte de mi material, aunque al igual que sucedió con Samostically, la presión del tiempo le costó caro a vjap y gracias a eso terminé ganando la partida. No soy alguien que utiliza mucho el modo berserk, mucho menos que últimamente estoy jugando más lento, la edad me está pasando factura D: (¿o simplemente olvidé jugar en piloto automático?) idk.

Sea como sea, tuve un increíble comienzo en el torneo, pero luego comenzaron los desastres.

En mi partida contra Tortyllan perdí por falta de tiempo. No sé por qué dentro de mí me pareció buena idea comenzar a usar el modo berserk sabiendo que me costaba pensar en ocasiones y la cantidad de tiempo me ayudaba muchísimo, pero aún así me atreví a hacerlo y me costó la partida. Aquí no hubieron muchas complicaciones y todo se resumió a cambiar la mayor cantidad de piezas para llegar a un final de algunas piezas y una torre, y a pesar de tener un peón pasado a punto de coronar, mi cerebro no podía procesar tantas jugadas en tan poco tiempo haha.

Supongo que fue aquí donde me comencé a desmotivar un poco por haber ensuciado la racha. Posterior a esta partida jugué contra Rosmarly de nuevo, y volví a ganar.. pero el resto fue historia.

Las siguientes 3 partidas luego de Rosmarly fueron contra Odnoobraz, Pavarotty y Vjap de nuevo. En todas y cada una de las partidas cometí errores de principiante, como dejar una pieza sin defender o simplemente entrar en posiciones completamente perdedoras y en cada una de las partidas decidí rendirme ya que no había nada qué hacer. No sé por qué esté en esta especie de racha perdedora, pareciera que simplemente me salí de "la zona" y perdí toda la concentración que venía manteniendo. Esto me decepcionó enormemente puesto que esta racha de derrotas fue lo que me costó estar siquiera en el top 10 del torneo.

Mi última partida del torneo fue contra Olu-jay, con quien tuve una partida increíblemente balanceada. Olu la jugó realmente bien y llegamos a un final bastante delicado donde yo tenía un peón pasado y otro peón contra 3 peones de él. Lastimosamente cometió un error garrafal y con un solo peón pude detener el avance de los otros 3, fue así como salí de una posición totalmente perdida a poder ganar. Luego de 1. g5 las blancas no estaban totalmente perdidas y la partida pudo ser tablas, pero supongo que la presión del tiempo le jugó también una mala pasada y logré sacar ventaja de esta posición.

¡Y eso sería todo! Tengo sentimientos encontrados al intentar describir cómo me siento respecto a esta ronda, puesto que le gané a 2 jugadores contra los que no me imaginaba jugar y ganar, pero supongo que esto me ayudará muchísimo para romper ese estigma psicológico. De una u otra forma, estoy bastante feliz de poder participar en este torneo y estoy bastante emocionado para el próximo viernes.
