Welcome back to the People's Guild. The bus finds its way back in Houston, TX as we sit down with good friend of TPG and adamant supporter of the show, @azircon.
Azircon wanted to take this opportunity to provide context, via his in-game finances, for the value proposition that is SPS and its potential longer term.
We also talk the DAO's DEC holdings, Rebellion and more.
Enjoy the show!
Land & Wax Blockchain Discussions
The group discussed their past experiences with the Wax blockchain, with Hepthorn sharing his positive experiences buying plots and land assets on the platform due to its user-friendly interface and potential for cheaper prices. They acknowledged the potential for price fluctuations and the challenges of verifying asset prices. They also discussed the current usage and future plans regarding land holdings in their game, with Hepthorn asking Azircon about the usage number of their land plots. The group also discussed the current status and future plans regarding land holdings in their game.
DEC Purchase and SPS Value Debate
Azircon, Hepthorn, Bjangles, and others discussed the challenges of buying large amounts of DEC and the potential of using a trader. Hepthorn suggested burning SPS for DEC, but Azircon disagreed due to their belief that the fair value of SPS is higher than the current price. Bjangles raised the idea of selling or working a deal on some of the vacant land due to the current unoccupied regions, which Azircon confirmed understanding but did not commit to. Azircon shared their own perspective about focusing on generating income from the land and emphasized the importance of future earnings over past expenditures. The discussion ended on this note.
Earnings and Investment in the Ecosystem
Azircon discussed their earnings from their land, stating that he receives around 1,000 SPS per day, which equates to $31 daily or $11,000 annually. They also mentioned that they have two other accounts and their total investment in the ecosystem amounts to about 8.5 million SPS. Azircon estimated their annual income from this investment to be around $100,000. They emphasized that this is an investment with an 8 to 10% return, similar to a simple mutual fund.
Grain Cost and Availability in Game Discussed
Azircon and Bjangles had a discussion about the cost and availability of grains, a resource essential for certain activities in their game. Azircon explained that despite owning occupied plots, grains might still need to be purchased due to their high cost and limited availability. However, Azircon also noted that large quantities of grains could be purchased from the market at a relatively low cost. Concerns were raised by Bjangles about the stability of grain prices due to upcoming changes with the 2.0 release. The discussion concluded with examples of sellers selling grains in the game's sale channel. Additionally, Azircon shared their strategy of purchasing reward cards from the market to enhance their collection, found to be more efficient than using time crystals for clearing plots.
Grain Production and Upcoming Game Update
Azircon discussed the grain production in their territory, mentioning several individuals including Bjangles, MichaelB., and Aggy. They highlighted redundancy as the top performer, with regions 2 and 4 producing 60,000 grains per hour. Azircon also noted that Hive-Engine, represented by Aggy, was generating a significant amount of grain and was likely to populate the grain pool. The conversation also revolved around the upcoming update to the game, potential restrictions in production, and the surplus of grain. The participants also discussed their card and DEC shortages, and the potential advantages of Land Surfing. Lastly, Azircon suggested burning 1.3 billion DEC with the SPS DAO, which he believes would be beneficial for the overall ecosystem.
Branding, Value, and Compromise: DEC and SPS Discussion
Azircon discussed the concept of branding in relation to DEC and SPS in the DAO. They explained that the goal is to keep DEC out of circulation, which would increase its value and the value of SPS indirectly. Azircon also suggested potential future uses for DEC, such as funding projects. Bjangles expressed concerns about the community's perceived lack of benefit from the Rebellion and Riftwatchers deals. However, Azircon disagreed, pointing out that the value of SPS had increased significantly since these deals. They also discussed the recent launch of Refusher and associated payments made to the community. Bjangles proposed a potential compromise of offering Guild Power in exchange for burning DEC but Azircon suggested and doubled down on the potential for doubling the SPS price in a month as a solution for those feeling left out.
Financial Diversification and Market Manipulation Discussion
Hepthorn proposed diversifying the finances by converting some of the DEC into stable coins for long-term stability. Azircon agreed with the idea of diversification but expressed concerns about the timing and potential risks. The team also discussed the close relationship between Splinterland and the SPS DAO and the potential for market manipulation if one token was used to push the value of another. The team decided not to manipulate the market and let the value of the stable coin, SPS, be determined by the market. They also considered staking the current stable coin, DEC, instead of selling or burning it, but concluded that this approach would be similar to burning it.
Rebellion Cards Gameplay Experience Discussion
Bjangles, Azircon, and Hepthorn discussed their experiences and strategies related to the new Rebellion cards. They shared their gameplay experiences and strategies, with Azircon expressing satisfaction with the cards, particularly the weapons training, and sharing their winning strategy. They also touched upon the limitations of using certain cards and the potential impact of weapons trading on gameplay. Concerns were raised about the potential lack of variety in teams and the need to address the issue of the Oppress ability not dealing double damage on non-attackers. Azircon noted that their current success might not last long, suggesting that the game's dynamics might change quickly.
Card Game Economics and Strategy
The discussion focused on the economic implications of a card game, with Azircon expressing concerns about the high cost of certain cards and difficulty of recouping investment, while Hepthorn suggested the value might come from battle rewards. The conversation also touched on the option of buying from the market. Later, the participants discussed the pricing of in-game items, with Azircon suggesting some items were underpriced. They also discussed various strategies for acquiring and using in-game items, as well as the game mechanics, specifically the importance of having a card at the highest level, and the impact of the new feature, Rebellion. Both Azircon and Bjangles agreed that there should be a significant ability or power increase at the final level to incentivize players to max out their cards.
Game Leveling System and Card Effectiveness Discussed
The participants discussed the game's leveling system and its impact on player strategy. They identified a card, Barashkukor, as underpowered at level 4 and expressed concerns about the effectiveness of other cards at higher levels. They also examined the Chaos Agent card, emphasizing its versatility. Azircon stressed the importance of choosing the character "Doctor Blight" in team compositions due to its effectiveness in small-mana matches. Lastly, Azircon shared their plans for a holiday trip to Yosemite, California.
