Pokemon Blue Venonat Starter - Part Six

Out of Mt Moon finally!

This is a play through of Pokemon Blue by using RetroArch to emulate the game. I am randomising the Pokemon in areas with similar strength so it isn't completely randomised, while choosing three starters of similar types

This Rocket grunt that Goliath came up against has a level sixteen Nidorina which has a good strength to do some solid damage, before the thunder wave paralysed it and the wrapping could do it's wonderful work of constant damage without Nidorina being able to stop it as all!

A good amount of money was earned for this battle and he headed forward, continuing through Mt Moon as he can feel himself getting closer to the end.

It was about to really start being a party up in here now!
Got caught in a couple of wild Pokemon battles which he wasn't expecting such great, catch worthy Pokemon and the first one is a Shellder. This will be great as it gets to higher levels to become Cloyster while having strong moves it learns.

After that Shellder was caught and getting straight into a new wild battle was the next Pokemon, a Grimer. Another strong choice as it gets to higher levels and turns into Muk as well and also a different choice from the normal type Pokemon and the same ones he has used up until now.

But wait.. there's more and this was some dumb luck or just a great area he has moved into, likely due to almost being out of Mt Moon.

Now there is a Squirtle appearing and this would make it two water types which isn't the best against Misty and Cerulean gym.. but another worthwhile catch to add, giving a full party of Pokemon to level up!

A couple of wild Pokemon were battled using Grimer and Squirtle as it couldn't be stopped, then this Super Nerd was being greedy by claiming he was keeping both fossils.. Goliath wanted one and a battle followed with the winner getting first choice of which fossil they wanted.

Venonat seems to be a bit more common among some trainers right now as this was the first Pokemon to be battled and luckily for Jigglypuff, sing plus multiple uses of pound succeeded in getting it to level ten.

Voltorb was the next to come out which ended up super easy after sing put it to sleep, allowing Venonat to hit it with some tackles and it was out like a light!

Finally and before being able to pick which fossil he wanted, Goliath faced a Pidgeotto that wasn't too high a level. Even though it is an evolved form and could hit decently hard, Venonat was stronger and got another win including hitting level sixteen.

The win got him first pick of the fossils and the one he decided to go with, was the Dome Fossil which will be kept for later on when needed. The other fossil which the Super Nerd took was called the Helix Fossil.

With that last bit out of the way and finally with a sigh of massive relief.. Goliath was out of Mt Moon and a short walk was all it took now, to be in Cerulean city!

First thing after healing at the Cerulean Pokemon Centre to be fighting fit, was selling some less useful technical machines and buying up a chunk of poke balls, potions and some repels spare for when they are needed and it was off to the Cerulean gym.

The first trainer the Swimmer, was sporting a Kabuto at level sixteen. At this rate he was thinking of potentially needing to level some more before facing Misty as she was bound to be super strong, compared to the current levels of most of his Pokemon.

Grimer was brought out first but quickly switched to Dratini, who got a thunder wave off successfully, allowing the usual wrap to do the work but not without taking a lot of damage and this Kabuto had better speed as well.

Staryu was the next choice brought out for this Swimmer which ended up paralysed, before getting to defeat Dratini.

Venonat was the next logical choice with its higher level, tackle did the work in getting the health down on Staryu, only suffering one weaker attack before being victorious and having this first trainer defeated.. but he would have to look at getting more levels for his Pokemon, as Goliath left to heal and head north of the Pokemon Centre next!

Emulator used: RetroArch with a Gameboy Colour core
ROMS: Pokemon Blue after being put through the randomiser
Saving: (Used for quick loading and for getting back to before I had all Pokemon faint, if I lose and so it is quicker.)

Beautiful game. It's amazing to see how the Pokémon franchise started. And to see how much it improved from this game.
Reading your blog made me want to dust off my Game Boy Color and go back to playing Pokémon yellow haha.
I hope you finish the series.
Regards

Why the venonat starter? I must've missed the beginning of this series but does the game revolve around it or did you just hack the starter for a different experience?

I put the rom into a randomiser, chose 3 different starters and then randomised the areas for similar strength pokemon, also trainer pokemon too. New experiences really haha.
